Soldier Accountaability
How it pertains to the Chain of Command:
Soldier accountability is the one of the main responsibilities of the leadership in the Army. Whether it comes from the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) support channel or from the actual chain of command. The NCO support channel plays the biggest role in the accountability process. During any type of formation you will notice that the process starts with team leaders ensuring their team is all present passing the information through the squad leader to the platoon sergeant. At this point the platoon sergeant will pass the information along to the platoon leader and company first sergeant. The company first sergeant will then pass the information along to the company commander. At this point if there …show more content…
Within the Army we see more and more these days of missions or deployments coming down at the last minute. If for some reason soldiers are not accounted for could delay the mission or deployment. So even if a soldier may not be physically present but still be accounted for to the point that if an emergency situation would happen the soldiers still need to be located or contact made with them in one way or another. In the modern world it makes even more important to have accountability. Due to the issue that soldiers aren’t and can’t be expected to remain on the installation at all times makes it even more important. There have been many incidents where a natural disaster has happened, major accidents have happened, and the growing cause of possible terror attacks. When issues like these should happen the chain of command needs to ensure that all their soldiers are accounted for to ensure that they have not been apart or hurt by the happening and also in case the unit may have to possibly mobilize to assist the in the local recovery after these events. If soldiers start going unaccounted for that could mean the soldier or the soldier’s family is going through some hard times and need

    there are many reasons why someone who is a soldier must always remain accountable of all the items that they are accountable for.     Accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for ones actions. Those that are unable to be accountable are the ones that jeopardize the combat readiness of any unit. It is the understanding that everyone is going to do and is willing to do the right thing even when no one else is looking. Everyone is assigned tasks and details not only including your own job that you are expected to do and do right but hold others accountable as well as a system of “check yourself, than check your buddy.” Doing the job correctly and ensuring others do it as well and do it safely are all part of accountability in the military as it can be dangerous given the types of equipment and tools we use. As an example any tools and or equipment left unsupervised can be lost and or stolen. As such in that event if the tools and or equipment was left out instead of signed out the wrong person becomes accountable. Everyone is accountable for their actions. You should always act responsibly as well, not just yourself but everyone. We spend thousands of dollars for each person to be trained and when ready, the expectation at your permanent party duty station is that you are going to be accountable for your actions and you as an individual operate and, that everyone around you is going to do the same. It is what is not only taught but it is what’s expected from everyone. Being accountable means being dependable, showing up to work and to appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being at the right place and at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. It is also to see if everyone showed up to work or where they are supposed to be. Accountability is not only for keeping track of other people it can also be for keeping track of money, gear, legal documents, and many other things.     Accountability comes in several different forms. First and foremost would be accountability for your own actions. Each Marine is held accountable for their actions and is expected to live up to the reputation and standards of the Marine Corps as directed by our higher ranking officers and staff NCOs. Another form would be that in accountability for your subordinates’ actions. Leaders are expected to be able to care for, train, mentor, and discipline those serving under them. When choices are made , no matter how innocent they may be, there are always consequences to the outcome and in the end someone must pay for them.
