What it means to be a professional soldier Before becoming a professional soldier, to become a professional of anything means being dedicated to your professional development both for yourself and for those people who are affected by your work. It is about being trustworthy, reliable and committed. Being professional means being an expert. It means being competent and skilful, but it also means behaving in an ethical way. It means putting others first, and acting in the best interests of the public or society. Also there is much more to being a professional than simply acquiring the best training and skills. Becoming an expert in your field is only one part of earning the respect of clients and colleagues. A large part of achieving recognition as a professional has to do with the way that you present yourself to others. Anyone can learn skills to become an expert in the field, however not everyone becomes a professional after learning the skills. Many have to learn how to become a professional before getting recognized as a professional.
Army follows certain guideline to become a soldier. Every soldier has to learn and live up to Army core values: of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. For many generations, Army service members that came before have knew and followed these core values to make Army the greatest and largest arm force in the World.
Loyalty is being faithful to a person, country, group or cause. By looking at the first Army value that a solider must follow, it makes one soldier to be bond with other soldiers and its country. Without Loyalty, there won’t be United States Army. Loyalty is what brings all the armed force members to join and become what we call One Family. Being able to fulfill the obligation is Duty.
