Where you are can definitely affect who you are. It can determine what you learn, your personality, and even influence some thoughts and actions. In the book Son, by Lois Lowry, this is very obvious. The main character; Claire, is given a second chance at life when she gets amnesia and washes up on the shore of a village in the middle of nowhere. She learns about different things while here, and acts differently as well. When she finally gets back her memories, she is scared of the animals on the island no matter the size, because she had no knowledge of them in her past life. While the town is in chaos because Jonas has escaped, Claire makes her getaway on a boat, never to be seen in that society again. “She felt a rush of water, suddenly; it pulled at her clothing. Cold. So cold. And then: quiet. A hollow, rushing kind of quiet. Darkness. While he was taken from her immediately after his birth, she still remembers, and longs for her son. This memory gives her a certain drive she never had, and makes her diligent and hardworking to complete the impossible of climbing out of the village to find her son. “You must start to harden yourself.
