Soylent Green started out with a montage of America in the early 1980’s and ended with New York City in 2022. The movie was based on what the future could look like for the world if we continue to become over populated. It looked beautiful in the country with plenty of hay for the cattle and food for people, taking a ride in the afternoon in the country side was a beautiful luxury, people were trying different experiments like the Wright Brothers in North Carolina who invented the airplane and over time things changed. Cities were built, cars were invented, factories opened and congestion in the street formed from cars and people being everywhere from over population. The world was so over populated that the air became polluted from the factory chimneys, people wondered about food and how it was running out. People were wearing mask because of the pollution. The plants died, animals had no more food and the greatest city in the world turned to shambles and became trashed. New York City was turned into a dump. In the year 2022, where the movie takes place, people were so cramped in living quarters that they lived on streets, steps, hallways anywhere they could find a place to lay their heads. Even women and children lived in those conditions. You lived like this unless you were high class and had money. The rich people would live in buildings with high security, lots of nice furniture, and real food not soylent green, red, or blue.
The main characters were Mr. Roth, Detective Thorn, Cheryl, also known as “Furniture,” and the Body Guard of William R. Simonson.
Mr. Roth and Thorn lived in a tiny apartment together filled with books and was extremely stuffed. They didn’t have running water. They had one sink, no air conditioning, and to keep their electricity on they had to ride a bike. The food was extremely expensive. For lettuce, apples, tomatoes, stalk of celery, and beef the total came to
