Spanish English Class Research Paper

If I could only take one class in high school I choose Spanish. Spanish is a foreign language class offered at my school which has been my favorite academic subject since Freshman year. Growing up I did not have the chance to learn a new language because my parents did not speak the same dialect of Tagalog, a Filipino language, so their only way of communication was through English at home. Because of this, the only language that I knew fluently was English up until the point where I began taking a foreign language class. Early freshman year I was interested in watching Korean dramas which motivated me into learning a new language. Since my school did not offer Korean language as a course, I took three years of Spanish; two years at my high school and one summer
I selected Spanish out of the three choices: Spanish, French, and Cantonese; because there are many Spanish-speaking people in my town which made it useful. Taking Spanish at a college was a new and challenging experience. As my first time taking a college level class, I did not know what to expect. I entered into the classroom with sweaty palms and high alertness on the first day knowing that I was taking a rigorous class. My mind was racing with fearful scenarios of how the class might turn out, but the lectures on the history of Spanish-speaking countries, the Spanish soap operas, and Spanish karaoke made it surprisingly enjoyable. Throughout three years of Spanish classes, I had the opportunity to comfortably present in classes by the improvement of my communication skills. Most importantly, Spanish sparked an eagerness to learn about different cultures and languages, being encouraged to expand my knowledge on cultures aside from my own. Prior to developing a language skill, my fascination for other cultures was minor, but after uncovering the amazing things about humanity, I yearned to learn more.
