Sparknotes Touching Spirit Bear
Touching Spirit Bear is a phenomenal young adult book about a boy forced, through a situation of his own making, to find himself in the wilds of Alaska. It is one of my favorite books that I have read. The author uses great imagery and interesting dialogues to keep the reader engaged. The main character of Cole Matthews is very well-written. His struggles, both physical and mental are described with vivid detail. You feel like you know him as a person by the end of the book. At first you don’t like him at all and as the book progresses you want him to succeed. By the end of the book, you feel like he is your friend. This book is very engaging with its powerful plot and strong messages that are woven into each chapter. Powerful themes of

Touching Spirit Bear is an breath-taking and action-packed story about a boy named Cole who has done bad things in his life so he has to spend a year on an island in Alaska. I think the flashbacks have to be the most important story element. The book uses lots of flashbacks to get people to know a lot about Cole’s past. The flashbacks are important because at the beginning of the story he is going to the island and during the following chapters it has flashbacks that explain and tell the reasons and explanations of why he is going to the island in the first place.…

A flashback explains to us how Cole got to Alaska in the first place. A native of Minnesota, he had been in the juvenile justice system for quite some time, and his wealthy and well-connected parents usually would get him out of trouble with the law. Recently, however, Cole broke into a store illegally, but when he bragged about it to one of his classmates, Peter Driscal, Peter turned him in. In revenge, Cole beat Peter up very badly, causing Peter head trauma and a permanent speech problem. Cole was taken back into juvenile detention. When Garvey, his juvenile detention officer, proposes that he choose Circle Justice instead of the possibility of being tried in an adult court, Cole immediately starts looking into the option.…

Max and Rudy were two characters I could feel connected to. Rudy was quite persistent asking Liesel for a kiss. I found it really crushingly beautiful how Liesel gave him a goodbye kiss after Death came for him. This book was to a large degree gloomy. The parts that to me had a positive feel were when Liesel and Hans would read together. The two of them had a heartwarming relationship. Rosa and Hans were so vastly different, both cared deeply they just had different ideas on how show…
