September 5th 2011 was Taylor Sarahs first and last day of her senior year. As Taylor was driving towards her high school she had decided that it was time to text her mother informing her that she had gotten to school safely and that’s when she drove right into a bus and was killed instantlyIf today was an average year one out of five people you know is going to be in an accident do to a distraction on the road. Weve all received a text message while driving one way or another whether it was your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your mom, or your dad. We all also know that texting and driving is illegal but many of us do it anyways, including myself. Today I will be informing you all about the possible dangers of texting and driving, the cost of texting and driving, and even the emotional after affects of texting while driving. After my speech today I want you all to think twice before you even think about texting while driving and hopefully you will all agree with me not to. Lets begin with the risks of texting while driving. There was a study by Virginia tech transportation institute which shows that one is 23 times more likely to be in accident while texting. So forget the snow storms, the rain storms, the old lady infront fo you, the real cause of accidents is the guy in the car behind you who happens to be texting while driving. When it comes to injuries and deaths the nation saftely council has reported that 1.6 million crashes are due to cellphones alone and 200,00 of those crashes are due to drivers texting while driving. According to the CTIA there has been more than 16000 deaths due to texting while driving. Is it just me that gets bugged by that, all you have to do is put that phone in the back of the car while your driving and not only are you saving your own life, but the lives of the people around you.
