Speech On Beecher Precept 'Your Deeds Are Your Monuments'

I’m Summer Dawson and I’m here to convince you that the precept "Your deeds are your monuments” can change the way we act at Beecher Prep. The memories we create with each other are the most important things of all. Our deeds are more important than what we look like and say. It's whether you want to be the type of person who was mean to everyone or the person who was always friendly, you decide. Over 3.2 million students experience bullying each year. Millions of kids skip school because they are being bullied and don’t feel safe at school. How would you feel if you were scared to come to school each day? Let’s live up to this precept and change Becher prep.

The precept focuses on what you have done and what you are most proud of about yourself. When you die you want people to remember you as a person that was friendly to everyone, even to the people that were mean. When those bullies grow up, they will regret being so mean to you and realize you were the better person for being nice. Let's show those bullies now, that it's better to be nice. We can do small things like smiling to someone because it may be the only smile they get that day. Studies show that being kind lifts your mood, so you’re not just improving their mood but raising yours as well. It's these things that add up and build people memories of you.
We will be remembered for being kind, but if you were mean to someone, you will be remembered as someone that was cruel. Over time, people are going to think they are worthless and it’s their fault you are being mean to them. What if you were the victim? Would you like to feel that way? kids that don’t come to school each day, are scared and feel worthless deserve better than mean and cruel behaviour. We should never have someone treat us badly because of our individual qualities. Let’s change the way we act toward each
