Part A. Analysis and Observations
1. Credibility of Speaker (based on background and experience): After listening to the person who introduced Byron Crape, I can conclude that Byron Crape is in a position to know and expert in his topic. Therefore, he possessed significant level of credibility. As it was told to the audience, Byron Crape is MSPH (master of science in public health), PhD, professor of biostatistics, researcher. In addition, his personal experience (e.g. - he conducted research about effect of doxycycline antibiotic on leptospirosis) was part of the lecture …show more content…
Audience (number of people present, reasons why they might have chosen to attend, level of enthusiasm, degree of similarity of audience members such as age, gender, level of education, etc.): Approximately 30 to 40 people attended this lecture. The main reason why people have chosen to attend this lecture is simply interest at subject of biology and medicine, thus, at the topic of lecture. That was also one of the similarities between audience members. Excluding this, I can say that degree of the similarity of audience members was not very big. As well as students of different ages and majors, there were professors and TA’s on the lecture. I suppose there was equal ratio of males to females, although I do not know actual number. After listening to the speech I can conclude that it was mainly oriented on students of higher courses. Although I was able to see how Byron Crape tried to adapt to everybody by providing some definition and explanations, unfortunately, it was difficult for me sometimes to follow the topic.
4. Topic: Title of the lecture was “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly evidence in medicine”. I found that interesting as the title of lecture was an allusion to the title of famous western movie “The good, the Bad and the Ugly”. It was not very clear that he will review several cases in which evidence was interpreted right, wrong or was faked. Nevertheless, topic he introduced to the audience was relevant, because in medicine evidence always plays important role.
