Scientifically, it seems humanly impossible to hit a 95 mile-per-hour straight fastball, but we see the professionals do it all the time! Your brain only has 125 milliseconds to decide whether or not to swing at the pitch, let alone making healthy contact with the ball (Griesmer). And remember, it is not always a straight fastball shooting out of the pitcher’s hand. Sometimes pitchers hurl in an off-speed pitch with movement to throw the hitters off their own balance. Yes, movement as in, certain rotations on the baseball decide whether it will drop down, slide to the right or left, or just float right up into the strike-zone, all still traveling faster than you would drive down the freeway. The physics behind different pitches is astounding! To narrow this down to two drastically different pitches, the four-seam fastball and the curve ball will be magnified. They are merely impossible to hit due to their velocity, movement, and the change in velocity when thrown back to back.…

Connoisseurs of America’s Pastime will immediately appreciate the colorful way renowned sports anchor Chris Berman vocally illustrates a home run. There’s probably no other single moment in a baseball game that captures fan enthusiasm than when a player ‘leaves the yard’. Of course the final out of a perfect game or no-hitter is cause for jubilation, but that rarity compared to “Back, Back, Back, – Gone”.…

Baseball is a game of skill that requires two teams consisting of nine players; a field, and equipment, such as gloves, bats and baseballs. To start, you will need nine willing players per team to participate. One team plays defence in the field , while the other plays offense at bat. The pitcher throws the baseball to the catcher with a offensive hitter in the batter's box trying to hit the pitched ball. Next, the umpire is the official that calls balls and strikes. But almost every college has one thing in common and that’s sports. Nearly all the colleges across america have sports teams. However, there are varying opinions on the role sports play in a student's college life. Some agree that sports are extremely important because they earn money for the school and attract the attention of students. But most agree with both sides of the argument that both sports and academics are key parts to a student and the college's success.…

Positivity is not a demand, but it is a choice. Trust is not a necessity, but it is a benefit. In today's society, student athletes have begun play the game only for individual satisfaction. Sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, and baseball are now full of players with selfish attitudes instead of having team-driven mindsets. Athletes have lost their hope in coaches who do not give 100 percent devotion to their team during practice or game time. If a coach cannot give his or her all to the team, then neither should the players. Both coaches and student athletes must be able to come together as one during the time of a game in order to pull through effectively and benefit all who are involved. A strong…
