In Spongebob Squarepants’ Halloween episode (Scaredy Pants) the mood is mostly light hearted with a little bit of spookiness. In the episode Spongebob is constantly reminded of how “unscary” he is by the people around him. Mr. Krabs invites him to his halloween party later that night. Spongebob decides to try to dress really scary and finally scare someone. Patrick decides to help him figure out what to dress as. He decides to be a ghost and wears a blanket. In the Spongebob episode there is much more of a rising action, climax, and resolution; while in the Simpsons’ episode Bart is killed immediately at the start of the episode. As stated before the humor in Spongebob is not very dark at all, the worst thing that occurs is that the Flying Dutchman says that he’ll take people’s souls. With The Simpsons there is so much disturbing content that it is hard to pick out what is the darkest. The Simpsons also acknowledged events that occur in the real world, while Spongebob is very cartoon oriented, and a lot more simple than The Simpsons. But both are also similar in a few ways. In the end there is a twist in both episodes. Sideshow Bob has never succeeded to kill Bart so it was incredibly unexpected that he would kill him in this episode, especially so early on in the episode. In Spongebob at the end nobody expected spongebob to look like that. Also both episodes do utilize shadows to make the atmosphere for “spooky” moments appear
