For my activity points, I attended the Plate of the Union political event, a group that is focused on getting healthy, affordable food to all Americans. The Plate of the Union holds monthly meetings at various locations around the city, at a variety of restaurants, focused on getting healthier foods on the menu, ones that support local farmers. This organization needs the government to pitch in, especially the President, since they would help bring more awareness to the cause and allow more funds to be put towards this problem.…
Turns out school isn’t canceled today. That surprised me because I was basically hugging my fireplace all day. I got to see all my friends today, Debby, Nellie, and Erika, I also finished my book I bought at Roger’s last night.…
This week included much activity with meetings, rain and the storm that never happened. Monday began with a Right on Crime communications meeting. It was interesting to sit through and hear what all was going on throughout the RoC organization. Then I went back to my desk to try and finish out the TPPF communications project I had been working on since Thursday. After lunch, I was informed about another weekly meeting with RoC, the policy call was also informative and I learned about what some of our signatories are doing in their states and areas. Following that Call, I finished out the day by finishing the communications project. Tuesday started out ordinary and I was able to finally begin the reading for the Thinking Economically class. Then it was time…
Throughout this week I have experienced many mixed emotions. On Tuesday I came to class extremely exhausted so I took a 5 minute power nap: I woke up confused and overwhelmed. Luckily Prof. Aran took a short break, but I still struggled to catch up on what I missed. On Wednesday I got up early to begin my rhetorical analysis and study the math problems I did not understand. It was a great feeling to come to class and know exactly what was going on. After class I joined a math study group which made me feel even more confident about my math exam approaching quickly. On Thursday I finished my first assignment with 10 hours to spare. My Rhetorical Analysis paper was very challenging to write, but I dedicated 2 hours a night and finished the…

The course I was taking was WRTG 101, taking this course helped me out a lot because it improved my writing skills a lot. When I was choosing this course I wanted to develop my ability to write in an effective way. The first hope was that the course will help me to develop my skills in different types of writing and expand my knowledge in different areas. The second hope was that the course will help me to writing full papers that make sense. Also, I hope that this course will help to understand papers written by other people and so that they are more clear to me. After completing the course, I believe that I am successful in achieving my goals of becoming a good writer. When I first started this course, my writing skills were not so good,…
Monday was the first week back into investigations. I talked with Lt. Salter about federal jobs, and the best ways to go about applying for federal jobs. After our talk, I went to buffalo wild wings to eat lunch with detective Turner, and Childes. After lunch, I rode with detective turner to talk to a victim whose house was burglarized. After talking to the victim, detective asked the neighbors if they have seen anything but no one knew or saw anything. We attempted to do more cases, but we did not get any answers from the other victims. I would end the day in the office.…
Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the unequal treatment of people on the basis of their group membership” (100). Bucher goes on to say “treatment varies because of race, age, gender, social class or any number of other dimensions of diversity” (100). ‘A Class Divided’ exposes that discrimination doesn’t just go to the extent to the color of skin, culture or ethnicity, but discrimination can fall into any physical characteristics, social status, having a developmental disability, simply being a woman, and in this case the color of your eyes.…
WRTG 101, Introduction to Writing is a requirement for a Business Administration degree. This is the not the only reason why I was interested in taking Writing 101. The other reason was to develop an understanding the academic purpose of writing, developing a strategy for writing, understanding different types of essays and how to appeal to the reader. Developing these skills will help me though out my college career and my future career in my chosen field. Throughout this course, I worked on these skills and went from a below average writer to an above average writer by learning and developing a writing skillset that can complete any assignment.…
The project implicit test I took was a new experience for me. I’ve never taken an assessment like that before. The test I took was on African Americans and Europeans Americans. I was nervous before I took the test because I was not sure or familiar with how the test was like. I read the first set of directions and did not get what I was supposed to do still. After reading more directions, I finally understood what I needed to do. The direction it gave me was to categorize things using the “E” and “I” keypad. One side had African and the other has European. The other categories were “bad” and “good”. I had to categorize pictures of people’s face, words, and virtues to which I think they belong. It was a fun test and I learned from it.…
The resident is unable to get out of bed as she only has use of her upper half of her body so I took her breakfast upstairs (golden syrup porridge and a cup of tea which had to be drank through a straw) and fed her as well as having a one to one interaction with her. This was a positive experience for me and once I had finished I had to record everything that I had given her as every meal has to be recorded in her book. I felt good because the resident had a smile…
My senior project was on shadowing Dr. Douglas Smith, he is an optometrist at the Bison Vision Center. I would watch him perform on his patients, while at the same time I was taking notes of every move he made while treating the patients. The shadowing was divided between 3 different sections, the first section was him doing paperwork, the paperwork was mostly government based. Secondly, it was fitting the glasses to the patient so they glasses would not slide of the person face. Lastly, it was the actual check up to the patient to see if they would need glasses, this would require 30 minutes of precise work and asking questions to best fit the patient needs.…
As a teacher candidate, when reflecting back on the SMART board activity I felt there were many strengthens to it. The activities on the SMART board were a review for the students on what they learned previously, which required students to display their knowledge in multiple ways. The activities met all of the requirements of the project, and utilized all the SMART board had to offer when designing to creative effective activities for the students’ review of the material taught to them. The teacher candidate comes up with creative ways to engage the students in the review, such illustrations. It is important to include a lot of illustration in the activities, especially in kindergarten who highly depend on illustration to understand certain…
