The American Revolution Diary Entry
Daughters of the American Revolution- Diary Entry
January 1914
I wonder what the New Year will bring. I bet it’ll be another year of a food shortage and starvation. More and more ships everyday are being sunk, therefore our goods fall out and fall to the bottom of the sea. I’m struggling to survive off grisly slices of dehydrated bread. It is very snowy outside, and while I admire the snow, we don’t have thick enough clothes to keep us warm.
February 1914
Today was cold, so I stayed inside most of the day, except for going to Roger’s Grocery. We didn’t get much, but I did buy this scrapbook and a reading book. As soon as I got home, I began to paste family pictures into my scrapbook. I wonder if they’ll be school tomorrow with all this snow.
Turns out school isn’t canceled today. That surprised me because I was basically hugging my fireplace all day. I got to see all my friends today, Debby, Nellie, and Erika, I also finished my book I bought at Roger’s last night.

It seems like everyone did, even the richest kids. I’m writing this with the help of a candle light because, unsurprisingly, our electricity cut off. Another reason I wasn’t able to write for a month was because my mother wants me to have a job as a nurse. My brother named Will got sent into the navy and my mother wants me to be there with him. I never thought that at my age, 15, I would become a nurse. I’ve always wanted to be an actress, but my mother tells me that I’m a quick learner and she thinks I could easily learn the job of a nurse. My mother cannot become a nurse because she is a single mother and has severe foot pain. She takes care of my little sister, Angelic. There’s another reason why I haven’t written for so long and I’ve been trying to avoid it, but the war is starting in a month and I’m

Professor Joanne Freeman unravels her plan for her class to make them be aware of the how the American Revolution came about but to get passed most but not all of the dates and facts of the war. Freeman explains that the American Revolution entailed some remarkable transformations like, converting British colonists into American revolutionaries. This lecture examines the American Revolution from a broad perspective. The best part about her lecture is that she breaks it down into five easy steps to understand, and for her being a professor at Yale she probably is one of the top favorite teachers just because of how easy she breaks her lectures down. Freeman relates herself to one of the Founders, John Adams, because he wasn’t up to the status quo of every other Founder as she states it. John was humorous…

The American Revolution refers to the period during the last half of the eighteenth century in which the Thirteen Colonies that became the United States of America gained independence from the British Empire. This article by David Dzurec explains how the experiences of prisoners of war during the American Revolution helped those fighting to gain American liberty. Dzurec has mentioned that the “barbarous and cruel nature of British treatment of prisoners allowed those, who supported the patriot cause to highlight the difference between themselves and their former colonial masters” In addition the author says, prisoners’ accounts appeared in newspapers, broadsides, and individual volumes, the plight of captive Americans became a form of shorthand…

The revolutionary era, 1763-1789, began towards the developed colonies to the extent that the nation, of its capacity, was to separate as there had become conflict that led to revolt. During this era there was no stable government, which questioned the nation’s identity. This brought upon the laws and acts being made toward the colonists’ by the British parliament and King George to help them pay off their debt after the Seven Years’ War. The acts that were made had a purpose to benefit all the people in the colonies, but instead created additional tension. The result towards the end of the era was for America to become independent from Great Britain through war and documentation that became important in history.…

We should come together as colonists to overthrow Great Britain. They have treated us so unfairly and didn't even give us a spot in Parliament. A wise man once said, “All mankind... being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions.” This quote was stated by one of the great European philosophers, John Locke. He states that "all people are born equal", in other words, no one should be treated differently from each other, but the British were not treating us with any type of equality or respect. The British created unnecessary, and needless rules that limited our freedom, such as the Proclamation Line of 1763, the Tea Act, and The Sugar Act. In all, the…

We have now begun our journey to South Carolina. I can’t wait to arrive, though I am worried about the travel there. When we first set out, father spoke with James, Elizabeth, and I. He finally thought it was time to tell us about Lexington and Concord, I don’t think he knows I know so much about it already. Though he told us some things I was not aware of.…

To begin with, the big taxations started right after the French and Indian war, not during the Revolutionary War at all. All of the Intolerable Acts were starting to change people’s lives in the colonies, for a long time up until the war. The change was huge for the Americans, ” This radical change… ” Also, the ways the English had started to try and control the colonies, was unlike the freedom they had before. The colonists (especially in the colonies that were self-governing) were furious about having decisions made for them.…

The term revolutionary means something that has or had a significant effect or sudden impact on the society and human behaviour. After and during the revolutionary war if a citizen was rich, white and a man he would have benefited from the revolutionary war, such as being able to enlist in the army willingly. However, if a citizen did not fall into that category they would have gained very little from the war. Contrary to G. Wood’s idea in the Radicalism of the American Revolution that patriots carried along and enforced the “Spirit of Equality” throughout the war (Document B), there was no equality shown to people of color, middle to lower class citizens and women. The revolutionary war did not make the lives of these individuals better in terms of race, class and gender. While the United States as a country was emancipated from Great Britain, the United States as a society was not…

The American revolution happened 200+ years ago,and still reflects on modern day sentiments; to a certain extent. After breaking away from a Britain, America rethought how they wanted to govern themselves, at first choosing a “weak” central government with strong state governments, and then moved into a strong centralized government with lesser powerful state governments. Women, slaves, and those loyal to Great Britain (Loyalists) experienced a lovely amount of change in the society at that time, but still lacked many freedoms we have today.…

Before the American Revolution occurred, the colonies had experienced a laissez-faire style of government imposed by the British. The British believed in the policy of salutary neglect, which refers to the policy of avoiding strict enforcement of laws meant to keep American colonies obedient to England. The American Revolution occurred due to mercantilist policies imposed by the British due to an effort to lower the tremendous amount of debt after the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The British imposed new taxes such as the Stamp Act (1765) which was a tax on printed items. The Americans then began the slogan “No taxation without representation” which became the cry of the American Revolution. Although men took the front-lines of the battlefield,…

George Washington helped us in many ways in the revolutionary war. Despite his losses he knew how to run the military. He was a really tough and brave man. Those two characteristics helped us in the military because you have to be brave and take risks t get rewards. Lastly toughness helped us out a lot. When our solders are sick or don't feel good they don't get to call in sick. They have to tough it out and if we were not tough enough then our soldiers would have gave up.…

I think the American Revolutionary War was revolutionary because it was going from a monarchy to a democracy and that is revolutionary. Many people don’t believe that it was revolutionary. They had their opinions because we didn’t get rid of our pre-existing social or political infrastructures. People like to compare the American revolution to the French Revolution, which ended in the country having a whole new take on social equality and freedom to live as you please. They got rid of King Louis the XVI who was destroying their country. Then they underwent a horrible time period known as the “Great Terror” where Robespierre commanded that there were enemies everywhere and started mindlessly killing his own people. Many historians believe that…
