Argumentative Essay: Standardized Tests Standardized tests have caused plenty of disagreements for years. From parents, to even teachers. The parents are worried about all of the stress that the test causes their children, The teachers disagree with the tests for the fact that they are used to evaluate them inaccurately. Some students also move at a slower pace than others and the test has its unfair advantages. These tests make some students feel like a failure when they don’t pass. The whole school year they shove information at students and expect their brain to remember every single detail. Due to the fact that some students don’t learn at the same pace as others, it causes stress. That stress makes it ten times harder to concentrate
on learning and even taking tests. Some people say that standardized tests are here to help students achieve the greater good. Little do they know that these tests haven’t really improved student achievements. In 2002, the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) was passed. After this passed, the U.S went from rank 18 on the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) to rank 31. In 2011, the National Research Council found no evidence that these tests are working or improving students education. At this point in time, test taking may teach students to take tests but do they prepare them for their future outside of school? According to http://standardizedtests.procon.org/ , these tests do not prepare students for productive adult lives. Many places use the “Drill & Kill” method when teaching students. The “Drill & Kill” method basically drills facts into students brains that they may never use after school ends. These standardized tests do not prepare students for job interviews or how to do your job. Not every test you take is to prepare you for future situations. Every student learns at a different pace. Although the tests don’t help everyone, the people they do help grow into a profession that they will use what they have learned. The strict policy also helps teach students to follow rules.
