Standardized tests are very common in our schools today. Many school require that we take tests in some form and there is a big debate on whether these tests are actually helping students. There are many people that say that standardized testing is good for our schools and students, while others believe that standardized tests shouldn't be used and are not necessary in our schools. My stand on the issue, is that standardized tests should not be used in school. Standardized tests do not show individual student's ability and cannot be based off of one test. Most parents don't know what it's like to take these tests that their children are now, because it was implemented until early 2000’s so most parent have taken only the ACT and that's it. The parents also can see how their children are doing, but they don't know how it corresponds to what they are suppose to be learning in class. Another reason it is beneficial is that it allows students progress to be tracked over the years. If the student has high test anxiety, how will they expect to do any better on the next test? The student already knows they did poorly on the first one and they are already discouraged for the next test, so they are already stressed about doing it again and fear of doing poorly once more.
The standardized test in all is not beneficial to our schools. They do not tell how smart a child is based on one test and test cause so much stress in schools. The standardized test should no longer be used in schools or should be replaced with another form of testing students that is fair and takes into account more than what they made on just one test. The standardized test may have shown improvement in some areas, but in all it has failed as a way of testing students and should no longer be
