I wasn’t terribly sure what I wanted to do with my life, nor did I have any idea how to get where I thought I wanted to be. My relative lack of passion wasn’t seen as a deterrent in my affluent Texas town, though, as it was a place where nearly all high school students went on to college—it was the only option we really considered or that was presented to us by our families, teachers, and counselors as a post-graduation plan. So I began the requisite search by looking first at nontraditional college environments, for while I had done reasonably well at my large and impersonal public high school, nor had I flourished either. It seemed to me that if I was going to spend the next four years of my life in school, I might as well try a different tactic than the one that had allowed me to coast rather unremarkably through high school.…

For the past three years I have worked as a coach for the youth basketball organization, the Next Year's Stars. We are composed of twelve basketball teams, spread out amongst four coaches, with myself being the youngest and second most tenured coach. There are practices running at least once a day, with games scheduled all Saturdays and Sundays. I only run practices twice a week and coach two to three games per weekend. Though I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity I have to instill the fundamentals of the game I love, I realize that I could be more active within the organization by taking a heavier workload. By continuing to engage, serve, and coordinate team practices and games within the Next Year’s Stars, I will learn the true meaning of leadership.…

During my four year undergraduate coursework I got an even deeper understanding of the object oriented programming approach as I learnt Core Java and C, laying down a strong foundation for my goal towards computer science. Artificial intelligence, design and analysis of algorithms, computer networks, data structures and computer graphics were few other areas of study which further stimulated my interest in computer science and helped me as I worked towards my final year project “Intranet Mailing System”— designed to provide a communication channel inside an organization between different clients on the network. I had also completed a banking project “ATM” as a part of my summer training in Hewlett-Packard training center; it provided the user basic functionalities of logging in and out of their account and creation of new user with unique account number as well as transfer, deposit and withdrawal of funds, it was designed in Java along with MySQL. Upon graduation from my university, I was employed as an Associate Software Engineer by Accenture, a leading brand in technology services. In my current job I was actively involved in development of “Bhoomi”— an application providing transparency and better services in land records management to the citizens of Karnataka by transforming the existing Bhoomi application into a brand new and futuristic total land management system. And “IDB CAF”—A Charity Aid Foundation application which enables retail users to manage their donations to validated NGOs. Throughout my stay at Accenture I learned to be a better decision maker and be more flexible, as it is an ever changing environment. Hence, besides the technical expertise I firmly believe that a software engineer should be…

As a child, solving puzzles was an interesting pass-time for me. This natural flair for ability to solve problems made me enjoy learning Mathematics during school. I was introduced to Computer Programming in high school at a demonstration class when a simple snippet of code was written in BlueJ to solve a puzzle. I was fascinated with the fact that an electronic device could handle all the computations in a short span of time. My keen interest and thirst for knowledge in this ever growing field were the main reasons to opt for Computer Science as one of my subjects after high school.…
