The field of counseling has always sparked a unique interest and passion in my life. To acquire a profession that comprehends guidance and empowerment towards another individual is truly inspiring. From an early age I’ve expressed a strong urge to assist individuals, especially in the emotional and mental aspects of life. In fact by performing multiple volunteer work and involving myself in certain career opportunities I’ve expanded my interest into a career at set forth to acquire an education in the University of the arts and sciences for …show more content…
clinical psychology and sociology at Kutztown University. During my undergraduate years I was able to expand my learning from outside the classroom to hands on experience, which in turn only intrigued my interest further within the field. In fact, one major opportunity I was granted during my undergraduate studies pertains to becoming a research assistant for a professor in a clinical research study and having our researched accepted and presented at the PACA in Slippery Rock University. During the research I was able to get a first hands on experience within the research aspect of psychology and the role of counseling. Overall due to my educational experiences and unique interest I’ve acquired a strong passion and natural instinct for the field of psychology and counseling.

Briefly explain your interest in the practicum program offered by Counseling and Psychological Services. My interest in the field of counseling, along with the practicum program offered by the counseling and psychological services has grown immensely over the past couples of months. Since starting my clerical position at the counseling center and completing some graduate level courses, I became extremely interested and intrigued within the roles of counseling. By having the ability to work with students one on one, gaining new perspectives and learning about diverse problems enthusiasts me. In fact, by working at the front desk at the counseling center I was able to grasp some of these aspects by interacting with students, handling hostile situations and eventually seeing a positive and effective outcome out of students who received help. Due to my small interactions and contributions with students, parents, teachers, and colleagues at the center and becoming more involved within the field of counseling has proven to me once again that this is the journey and career path I want to take in life. However within the GA position I will not only be able to work and build a positive relationship with students at hand, but I will also get to further my education by attending workshops, training meetings, and clinical supervisions, which will be most beneficial to my learning and will only help me grow as a counselor. Overall the position offered by the counseling center is an amazing opportunity for which will give me a new perspective understanding and knowledge within the field that I will carry throughout my life. I'm a hard worker who is determined and aware of the tasks that must be met in order to accomplish certain goals and
aspirations.
4. List and briefly describe any previous counseling experience.
One main counseling experienced I’ve encountered entailed a summer job where I enabled myself to become a Girl Scout Leader along with acquiring the position as a unit counselor at a summer day camp program. Duties as a unit counselor involved interacting and enabling girls in multiple activities, such as extracurricular events to educational lessons. However my main focus was empowering the girls through diverse group activities and discussion topics, by demonstrating guidance and leadership skills. Through my interactions I was able to communicate and connect to girls on different levels, enabling a positive relationship, and learning how to manage and work with a diverse population with different needs.
