Environmental program, when I looked into the school further I learned that it offers a Public Interest Certificate Program. This program would help me to further my interest in pursuing public interest work regarding mental health, especially it offers opportunities for clinics and externships, which would allow me to gain valuable hands-on experience. I am also interested in the many student organizations offered, and hope to actively participate with the Public Interest Law Project. I believe that this school would provide the type of academic environment in which I could succeed. When attending Lewis and Clark College’s Fall 2016 Open House, I was struck by the friendliness of the school’s alumni and present students who took time to present their stories and answer questions. They seemed to genuinely value the education they received at Lewis and Clark, and expressed that although law school is challenging, one would be surrounded by supportive classmates and faculty. During my time in college, I appreciated having classmates who challenged each other to learn and improve without this competition being negative. From what I have learned about this law school, I think I will find a similarly challenging, but collegial environment here, in addition to faculty who are invested in their students’ success. In many respects, Lewis and Clark Law School is an obvious choice for me. It would allow me to continue living in a city I love, while gaining the skills necessary to pursue a legal career in public interest work in Portland or beyond. In addition, I believe that I would enjoy my time at this law school, and have the opportunity to make valuable connections with other students and staff.
