When you are out in the woods we know we are in danger of becoming the prey of much larger animals. Thousands of years ago we did not have the high power weapons we have today or even the knowledge of the animals that were hunting us. We had to kill in order to survive. Alexander Mauskop supports this idea by explaining, “...if we were to survive we would have to kill some animals in self-defence.”. Some may argue there is a difference between wild animals and domesticated animals raised for human consumption. However, Steiner disproves this idea by not separating domesticated to wild animals in his essay. Steiner does not support this point of thought as he explains, “In the case of killing animals for human consumption and other purposes [is] outright murder.”. How is our species supposed to survive if we do not kill. We will be the ones being “murdered” if we do not kill for our strength and ultimately have killed to be the top of the food chain and live the comfortable life we enjoy today. Also, humans do not kill animals for no reason. We kill to survive and safely use every part of the animal as we can. If we were not to kill, another factor that would threaten our survival is disease by overgrowth of animals. Disease could spread by feces or water. Then when we do to consume roots, berries, fruits, vegetables, and water the contaminants could make us extinct. For these reasons Mauskop helps us …show more content…
We would destroy habitat of animals to make room for our crops to feed the entire world. We would be working to develop different technology to gain the missing nutrition of meats and animal-by-products. We could even see a decrease the in intelligence of humans with the absence of meat as we developed with those much needed proteins. To each their own. If they decide a vegan lifestyle in what they like go ahead! But stepping back and looking at the grand scheme of things there are just too many negatives outweighing the positives. I understand that Steiner is not necessarily persuading to become vegan but influencing how we think of where our food comes from. I agree that unnecessary slaughter is wrong and treatment of animals \should be humain. We are not superior, but just surviving. For these reasons the letters to the editor help us understand
