Stem Cells Argumentative Essay
Stem Cells

Stem Cells are fundamentally cell templates. These cell templates are used to create all the cells in our body. Stem cells under the right circumstances are manipulated into other cells, such as mussel cells and liver cells. The thing that makes stem cells so useful is that not only can they become almost any cell in your body but they also have the special characteristics to be able to self re-new or multiplying while still keeping the potential to become useful cells for our body. Research is currently being done to use stem cells for medical applications like replacing damaged tissue, possibly even to re-grow severed limbs for amputees or organs for people who need them because there own ones have failed them. The benefit

Also with feather research we may be able to re-grow whole limbs and organs. The benefit of being able to heal damaged cell, is that it can improve the mortality rate

Moral point against Stem Cells:

It is argued that, because stem cells are mostly harvested from un-born foetuses which is considered “murder” by some. These people most likely also are against abortion, which is the main source of foetuses used for research. it is believed by some people that as soon as the ova has been fertilised by the sperm that is is alive. This belief contradicts the accepted theory that once the foetus has a heart beat it is alive. A foetus only has a heart beat around 6~8 weeks into the pregnancy. This is a large gap as people in most places can legally get an abortion in the first 6 ~ 8 weeks of pregnancy but not after the 8th week. However some groups belief that sense the ova is fertilised and the foetus is alive that its should not be allowed to have a termination at any point during the pregnancy. To do the majority of stem cell research it is necessary to have the abortion so that the stem cells can be extracted from the bone marrow of the foetus. Because groups of people belief that abortion is wrong, stem cell research progresses

The real controversy in stem cell research lays in the termination (abortion) of the embryo, which is an entirely independent debate altogether. The embryonic stem cells extracted for research are being derived from embryos that are being aborted regardless (Johansen). Therefore, there is a macrocosmic debate more powerful than the one about stem cell research itself. By harvesting these stem cells from babies predestined to abortion, at least a contribution is being made to society – one that can benefit a multitude of people, perhaps suffering from a multitude of conditions. Even if one wants to debate the ethics of stem cell research, the researchers are being ethically unethical, with regard to the abortions guaranteed to take place.…

In 2009, President Barack Obama used an executive order to lift certain limitations on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research (“Embryos and Unintended Consequences”). In 1973, the United States legalized abortion with the landmark supreme court case Roe vs. Wade. According to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, stems cells are, “a renewable source of tissue that can be coaxed to become different cell types of the body.” Embryonic stem cells in particular are, “stem cells derived from embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized in vitro—in an in vitro fertilization clinic—and then donated for research purposes with informed consent of the donors” (Stem Cell Basics III). The conflict of what is considered “ethical” in regards to unborn human…

Embryonic stem cells can potentially cause tumors due to the rapid growth when injected into adults. Another big issue with the research of the embryonic stem cells is that in the far future, this could lead to the knowledge on human cloning. Seeing as embryonic stem cells come from the embryos, adult stem cells biggest advantage is that the body’s own stem cells can be used, effectively removing the problems of immune rejection or abnormalities. Many people who are religious would argue that harvesting the embryo is against belief. This is a main controversy because these people believe that the four-five day old embryo has a soul and is evidently murdered when harvested. They believe that the research on these cells violates the sanctuary of life. Their argument is that the embryo in the situation is a potential human being and see the fertilized egg as starting a…

Life is defined as the existence of an individual human being or animal. There is a plethora of controversy about when life truly starts. Does it start right when the sperm meets the egg? Does it start when the fetus develops enough to feel? Most have their own opinion on this topic, but if “killing” an embryo can save lives it might be worth it. General stem cell research has been going on for many years, but due to cut funding, advancements have been inhibited. It was cut because embryonic stem cells research is considered unethical, but embryonic stem cells open a whole new realm of possibilities. The debate of using these stem cells has been argued for a long period of time. Certain stem cell research may be considered unethical, but the…

Stem cells require research, and therefore also require people to do that research in labs. Because of this, more jobs open up in the scientific research field. When these jobs are filled and people begin getting paid, they become a part of the economy because they now have money that they can spend. Also, as mentioned in the paragraph before, embryonic stem cells can cure so many diseases. Once the people with the diseases are cured, they will be able to return to the work force and receive an income to spend.…

Stem cells, often called the building blocks of the human body, are positioned within the body’s blood, tissues, organs, and immune system. Once they are transplanted, they have the capability to either reconstruct or restore a patient’s damaged cells which could enhance the patient’s health; and in some cases can conclusively save a person’s life.…

What exactly is stem cell research about? Did you know that stem cell research has been around for over 30 years now? According to “Stem Cells for Dummies” the book, stem cells are primitive or unspecialized cells that can help in tissue repair and rejuvenation. When they divide, stem cells have the potential to become any type of cell needed, such as brain, blood or muscle cells, this is what makes them different from other types of cells. There are a couple of different stem cells however, adult stem cells and embryonic. Different kinds of stem cells have different abilities and limitations. Adult stem cells can reproduce themselves and create specific types of cells, but how flexible they are still remains a question. Embryonic stem cells appear to be the most flexible, able to grow indefinitely in the lab and give rise to all the cell types in the adult body.…

What exactally are stem cells? The Center for Bioethics and Human dignity states that the difination of them cell are the vital cells from whick all of the two hundred ten different kinds of tissue in the human body originate. And why are some people saying that it is not morally right? Most arguments on the topic of trem cell research are that to obtain stem cells, a scientist or embryologist must extract the cells from a human embryo. After the cells are extracted, the embryo is unable to grow and ultimately dies. Some scientists that work for the American Association for the Advancement of Science believe that stem cell research can co-exist with the Supreme Court's 1973 legalization of abortion. The same survey that was posted on religioustolerance.com, states that before hearing all sides of the…

What are meant by stem cells and how might they be used? There are many types of stem cell, but they share several interesting properties that set them aside from other cell types. The adult body contains hundreds of specialised or "differentiated" cell types, each playing a particular role. Some of these are long lived and do not divide, such as nerve cells; others are short lived and need to be replaced through cell division. Usually, when cells divide, their daughter cells are identical and of the same type as the parent cell. In other words they divide symmetrically. Additionally, their fate and their properties are fixed – once a liver cell, always a liver cell.…

One reason many people don’t agree with embryonic stem cell research is that they believe that scientists use embryos that have started to develop into babies. This is a myth (UMichigan). Scientists fertilize an egg in a dish, and use it 5 days after the fertilization when the embryo only contains about 100 cells, none of which are specialized (UMichigan). The embryo is no larger than a period at the end of a sentence (UMichigan). This embryo, although beginning to form, has no heart, no spine, no limbs, and no systems (UMichigan). If this was known by more people, then many people may change their minds about stem cell research.…

4 cells are extracted and then duplicated and grown for reproduction and used to heal wounds. The cells collected from one specimen can grow enough cells to cover a football field. This could be a blueprint for the use of fetal cells and mass production with fewer hosts. This may also help eliminate the body rejecting the transplant tissue and the loss of transplanted tissue due to tissue death.…
