Stephen R. Covey's Essay On Accountability

Stephen R. Covey once said, “Accountability breeds response-ability.” While Stephen Covey is definitely correct, and responsibility is a huge part of accountability, I also believe there is a little more to accountability on top of that. Foremost, to be accountable is a great achievement. It’s refreshing to know that someone trusts you enough with something they care about. Secondly, accountability can be difficult to achieve but it’s definitely rewarding in the end. Finally, to be accountable doesn’t necessarily mean you’re trying to prove yourself to others. It can also be something you’re trying to prove to yourself. It’s a great goal to strive for. To be accountable is not only to be responsible, but much more.
To be accountable definitely
Accountability seems fairly simple as it’s basically doing what you say, meaning what you say, and taking responsibility for your actions. It can be more challenging than that though. For example, you have to discipline yourself to be that way and to be completely honest and it can be tough. You’re definitely going to make mistakes, but that’s all part of the process You have to be yourself and stay true to your beliefs and morals. Honesty is a big part of accountability. Also, It’s a lot easier and faster to lose someone’s trust than to gain it. You have to work hard to have someone trust you and give you the responsibility over something. You can easily lose it though with a few mistakes. For example, I’ve witnessed before where someone will be considered accountable to someone but then they decide to do what’s popular and try and fit in rather than what’s right. Making this mistake over and over again can cost a lot. Another thing, you can’t lie to yourself if you’re trying to be accountable. You have to stick to your goals and stay true to yourself. Proving to yourself that you can do these things is one of the greatest achievements. Overall, proving to yourself that you can be accountable may be one of the greatest achievements, but it’s also one of the toughest. It definitely is one of the most rewarding achievements in the long
