Stereotypes In Sports
Should sports be coed? People always say can girls and boys really cooperate when playing a certain sport. Boys are more stronger than girls because they are naturally rough and a bigger and boys wouldn’t feel right while playing football because they don’t want to hit a girl. It also might be awkward for both genders because it will quite different because boys are used to boys and girls are used to girls so they chose their own gender because it would feel a lot less awkward. When playing a certain sport let's say basketball, when you play it there involves a lot of running and dribbling the ball unless you are a passer who passes the ball. You have to make sure the other team doesn’t shot or they will score a point but while …show more content…
On top of that men are a lot more stronger than women and if they were to play against them the girl or women would most likely be hurt on the arm or just get a bruise on their arms or legs. Another reason is that men will feel uncomfortable if they are a bit older like around their early 20s or late teens. Lots of women want the same equal rights as men in sports they want to challenge them even if they are tough they are still physically weaker than men and they can't keep up with men with such a big gap in strength. Men as we all know they like victory some men are also selfish when it comes to being victorious if women were to actually play against them they have at least a low chance of winning unless the men will go easy on them. Women are strong and fast and most of them are flexible and agile so they have that advantage and they might stand a chance but either way men are quite mischievous and will come up with something that women would not see coming. The average height of a woman is 5´4 and the average height of a man is 5´9. In conclusion should sports be coed? I suggest they should not be coed because of the various reasons that they should not be coed. Both women and men are very different both mentally and physically and they shouldn´t be coed with the reasons of height difference, speed, strength, and body size. So this concludes

One of the key points to evaluate here is the argument that males biologically have an advantage in the majority of sports. In the vast number of cases this is true, however this should not be a reason why females are either discriminated against or feel pressurised to not participate in a sport. In a study done by McArdle, Katch & Katch in 1981, it was shown that among Western adults, men are around 50 percent stronger than women1. One thing that is important to point out here is that the average female has not been encouraged to participate in activities that would develop the growth and potential of muscles in the same way men have been encouraged to do. The stereotype that women should be slender and with little muscle does not aid this particular viewpoint on women’s sport. This leads on to the point of the history of female sport and the view on women’s roles in society. The earlier you go back in history, the more the viewpoint has existed that women are there to aid the husband in the house and bring up the children whilst he is out earning the money. This was very much the case and still is in some cultures, which inhibited and inhibits women from participating in sport because they simply do not have the time for it. As Spears (1978) said in his study, “Only the exceptional woman was involved in sport”2. I think it is fair to say however, that this viewpoint is quite clearly changing because participation in female sport is at an all time high at the moment. According to…

Co-ed sports should be allowed. The teams would have the best of both genders on one team, there would be more competition to make the team, and there would be better opponents to make for better games. All in all, co-ed sports would benefit both boys and girls and would have more positives than…

I support the proposal that girls should be allowed to play on boys’ sports teams when there isn’t a girls’ team available. Girls, if their skill level is equivalent to that of the boys on the team, should be given the opportunity to participate in the sport of their choosing. By doing so, a girl has the ability to showcase her talent, learn to associate and work with the other gender, and help eliminate many stereotypes that run rampant through society today.…

There are many aspects why female and male athletes should not compete together. Although one reason may be because of physiological differences, societal barriers also prevent female athletes from competing with males. What it means to be male or female is one of the hardest things to decipher. This is one of the more bigger struggles between masculinity and femininity. One institution that specifically targets this idea of gender differences is professional sports. Women are challenged because of these gender differences to be accepted into a male dominated institution. Female athletes are encouraged and in many cases forced to under appreciate themselves by the media because of sports. Our society tends to under appreciate women who play…

    The Same Team

The debate that girls and boys should be playing on the same team has gone on for quite a while. Boys think girls cant do most of their physical activities. On the other side girls think boys cant do most of their physical activities. This debate has gone on for such a long time, now it is just silly. Each side has their own opinions, but they can never agree with each other. I think girls and boys should be able to play on the same team, but we should give them that decision if they want to or not. What I am trying to say is that we should let them decide if they want to play on the same team with boys and girls. It's not us to decide if they want to or not. Their are many girls that are better then boys in physical sports such as baseball or basketball or even football. People, think the reason the guys don't want the girls on their team or the girls don't want the guys on their team is because they think one is better then the other. Yet the other person doesn't want them to prove it. Some people are given talents to do great things in sports but some people just wont allow them to show it. This is where the Olympics come in. In the Olympics men and women play on the same team and do the same sports with each other. I think the people that actually play the sports should decide if they want to play on the same team or not.…

More than half of the human population has been involved in a sports team. Most likely, sports either have a boys or girls team or rarely have a coed team. Stereotypically, people believe that men are better at playing sports due to their strength, brains, and speed. Often, society states that women should not be allowed to interact in sports related activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, etc. Luckily, society began to accept women to play sports with men or along side them.…

Activities and sports in schools is a great way for students to be involved, and to be active. I have done research and there hasn’t been one article I found on why sports shouldn’t be in schools. Having athletic programs and activities in schools are very helpful for students health, it develops team work, helps develop discipline and also perfection. School administrators, and parents, generally support high school activity programs because of the positive effect these activities appear to have on students of both genders. (Braddock P.1)…
