American Airlines Research Proposal

With preparation for the strategic plan, research will be performed on American Airlines in regards to their overall organizational structure, the company’s vision, mission and values. The importance of a company’s “vision statement is sometimes developed to express the aspirations of the executive leadership; vision statement presents the firm’s strategic intent that focuses the energies and resources of the company on achieving a desirable future” (Pearce, 2013, p. 34). Further research into the full extent of their commitment will be further reviewed with an analysis of their environment report from 2012, and further researched analysis on what methods were used to ensure environmental awareness with American Airlines. The environmental analysis will consist of two internal and external components, which are necessary in order to have a complete comprehensive strategic plan in regards to American Airlines internal analysis of the corporation’s ability to identify their strengths and weaknesses. American Airlines information will be gathered by their website along with SEC website to gain more research on the structural organizational information their filing. External analysis will look at how competitive the company is within their current market, also by looking at how the company is viewed from the US department of Transportation; along with the use of innovation strategy that they have implemented that sets them apart from other

    This internal business analysis is on Southwest Airlines, which was founded in 1967 by Rollin King and Herb Kelleher. The main focus for Southwest Airlines was to provide low cost flights for their customers, and also have exceptional customer satisfaction. Southwest is a leading airline company that continues to do well in an industry that has been historically challenging. For instance, in the span of two years (2005-2007) five major airlines have filed for bankruptcy. After all the legal battles between the two men and the airline companies of Texas at the time who believed it was not necessary for another airline company to enter the market, battles that prevented the operation of the company for three whole years, Southwest Airlines Co. had become a reality.     When we talk about aviation maintenance, we speak of repairs, alterations and the act of preserving an aircraft in its original airworthy condition. An airworthiness certificate is given to an aircraft after countless hours of design, research and testing. And in order to keep this certificate valid; an aircraft must be maintained in accordance with a certain specification. These specifications are brought to us by the Federal Aviation Administration. The Federal Aviation Regulation part that spells out these rules is found in part 43. These acts are performed to prevent harm to pilots, passengers, and even innocent bystander that may become involved in an incident due to improper maintenance. As maintenance managers, we must understand these implications that must be followed, so that we may ensure that our facility is performing to the standards set upon us by the FAA. The Federal Aviation Act of 1958 allowed for the regulation of air commerce in such manner as to best promote its development and safety. This brought about a rulemaking process to insure that all aspects of aviation could be regulated in a way as to provide maximum safety to all. This was the initial birth of 14 CFR 43, or Part 43 of the FAR 's which is ironically titled Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Rebuilding, and Alteration (Federal Aviation Regulations [FAR], VII, 1997). This part has been primarily written for individuals or repair facilities that may be performing some sort of maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding and or alterations. It refers to a number of qualified individuals that include holders of mechanic, repairman, air carrier, or even a pilot 's certificate, that may perform an array of the procedures listed in this part.
