Leesville Community Center provides after school activities including recreational activities, tutoring services, as well as accommodation to parents who tend to have late work schedules. After school programs, such as this community is a great way for children to connect and produce activity. Weaknesses that occur within this community include mild supervision due to scarcity of workers, and limited availability of resources. In the picture provided in Appendix A, a group of young participant were able to leave the community center, walk through a trail 2 miles down the road to a corner store and make it back before anyone noticed they were gone. The safety of these participates are put at risks especially since they did not have consent to leave, their whereabouts were not accounted for. “Although violence exposure for children and youth cuts across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups it is most often associated with poor, inner city, ethnically, and racially diverse groups” (Osofsky, 1999). There is so much present violence and kidnapping within rural communities, it is essential to have adequate supervision for each participant. In addition to the weakness of having a scarcity of workers in this specific community center, workers are just hard to maintain. Accumulating or adapting qualified workers for this rural environment is tough due to the impoverished area.
