The long shot at the end of the film shows people of all races, backgrounds and abilities dancing together, with Scott’s identity finally accepted and approved of by his mother shirley and also rest of the ballroom dancing world. Thus the responder can see that his sense of belonging grew, gained and enriched. Therefore the role that acceptance plays in establishing a sense of belonging Furthermore in the film ‘’Strictly Ballroom, Baz Luhrmann highlights the importance of relationships in establishing a sense belonging. This is seen through the character of fran. At the beginning of the film Fran costume was really boring in comparison to the ballroom dancing world. Her old ill fitting costume contrasts with sparkly costumes of the women in the room old ill costume in contrast to the other woman in that room. This clearly indicates that Fran was not accepted by anyone.This is further clearly seen in the film when she is presented as ‘’just Fran’’ without a surname. This positions to understood the responder that Fran clearly does not belong in the ballroom dancing world because firstly her costume and then lastly of because of how her appearance is presented in the ballroom dancing community.
