Assignment Title: Stroop Effect
Exercise Results: 29.408 Seconds to Complete Practice Trial 1 55.788 Seconds to Complete Stroop Trial 1 19.830 Seconds to Complete Practice Trial 2 39.901 Seconds to Complete Stroop Trial 2
1- Briefly (2-3 sentences) summarize the pattern in your results. Did you follow the expected pattern? If not, why do you think that is so?
- Following the pattern was very difficult in both tries where the color did not match the written text. It felt as of my brain read the word and interpreted it way faster than recognizing the color of the word, then I had to remind myself the purpose of the exercise was to identify the color of the word rather than the word itself which …show more content…
so, the correct words can be planned and pronounced. (Shitova, Roelofs, Schriefers, Bastiaansen, Schoffelen, 2016). The Stroop Effect demonstration shows the reaction time of a specific task when our brains goes in the “auto piolet mode” vs consciously thinking about the task.
3- Explain (3-4 sentences), in your own words the relevancy of the Stroop Effect to the understanding of sensation and perception. Provide one example in real life where the principles of the Stroop Effect may impact your processing speed/accuracy (3-4 sentences):
- Sensation is the process of detecting and encoding stimulus energy from the outside world. which in the case of the Stroop Effect experiment we sense the color energy and then it will transform to the neural impulse or message to be delivered to the brain. In the brain, stimulated parts produce what we call a perception. Perception refers to the method of forming and understanding sensory information to give it meaning. An example of real life Stroop Effect impacting our processing speed/accuracy would be when reacting to a moving car in front of us, once we see the brake light comes one we sense the light’s energy and deliver message to the brain. The perception here is the car is about to stop, so, the message organized in out brain to push on our brakes and stop our car immediately to avoid
