METHODS
Materials
The materials that were needed for the experiment were minimal. The materials include a visual aid for the participants to look at the different combinations of the words’ congruence and orientation. A classroom will be needed to administer the experiments which will need enough desks to seat all of the university-level participants, the visual aid for the slides and a timer that the TA will monitor. The TA will provide flashcards for the students to record the amount of colors they are able to identify in each slide, and writing utensils for students that may not have their own. Additionally, Excel and SPSS software is needed to analyze the data and …show more content…
The dependent variable is the amount of color or the words the participants were able to process through. There will be four different slides to express each combination of the dependent variables. The first slide contained the words with colors that were incongruent and the orientation was right-side up. The second slide contained the words with the colors incongruent and the orientation was upside down. The third slide contained the words with the colors in congruence and the orientation was right-side up. The fourth slide contained the words with the colors in congruence and the words were upside down. Each time the slide was presented, it was on for 15 seconds and after the slide disappeared, the participants self-reported the number of colors of the words that they were able to get through on a flash card. Once all slides were presented, the TA collected the flashcards to be added to the pool of other flashcards that came from the other discussion
