Introduction
The structural- functional theory is a framework for building theory that sees society as a complex system whose parts work together to promote solidarity and stability. As the name suggest it deals with the social structure and function. Social structure is any relatively stable pattern of social behavior. Social Function is the consequences of a social pattern for the operation of society as a whole. While conflict theorist see society as a arena of inequality that generates conflict. They believe that the existing system of distribution is basically unjust. While structural- functional theorist believe that the existing system of distribution was basically just.

Religion gives us a connection to the big question or the meaning of life. It gives a sense of community and teaches societies moral and values. Religion establishes social cohesion, which means it, unites people through shared symbolism, values and norms. Society uses religious ideas as a way to promote conformity. They do this by defining God as a judge of human behavior and action. Religion can also be used to backup political systems. Religious belief offers the comforting sense that our lives serve a greater purpose. By strengthening these beliefs people are less fearful of change or even tragedy. So for that reason we see birth, marriage, and death with religious observances. Religion helps develop of ones self and the need to be able to behave a certain way of church. So religion in turn legitimizes societies
