Project TA: Kai Wang (kaiwang.sunysb@gmail.com) Project #1: Switching Element Problem To be submitted: Wednesday, March 5, 2013 Project Description In this project you will write a program to produce a discrete event simulation of a switching element with 10 inputs and 3 outputs as shown in Fig. 1. Time is slotted on all inputs and outputs. Each input packet follows a Bernoulli process. In a given slot the independent probability that a packet arrives in a slot is p and the probability that a slot is empty is (1– p). One packet fills one slot. For a switching element if three or less packets arrives to some inputs, they are forwarded to the switching element outputs without a loss. If more than three packets arrive to the inputs of the switching element, only three packets are randomly chosen to be forwarded to the switching element outputs and the remaining ones are discarded. p p p p p p p p p p In your discrete event simulation the program will mimic the operation of the switch and collect statistics. That is, in each time slot the program randomly generates packets for all…
Puck, instead of squeezing the flower juice on Demetrius and making him fall in love with Helena, he squeezed the flower juice on Lysander who was supposed to be in love with Hermia. When Lysander woke up, he saw Helena so that made him fall in love with Helena. This affects him because he said all of those things to her and was supposed…

For many high school students, the obvious choice after graduation is going to college. But why has this become the norm? With many students being conditioned at a young to prepare for college, there might not seem like any other choice. As college tuitions continues to rise and the job market continues to decline, young adults have started to rethink the choice to attend college. After all, there have been many successful people who have not graduated college. This proves that one does not need to attend college to be successful and there are many different options besides a four-year university to gain knowledge that is useful for getting a job.…
Do you want money? If so, don’t go to college because you will be spending the next 10-20 years of your life paying off your student debt, stressing out and eating Ramen noodles every day. This is the dilemma that most high school graduates face: get a job with a high school diploma, invest in college and hope to get a better job with a college degree, go to trade school, join the military, or hope to God that your YouTube videos go viral and make you famous. Most students pick the college route, thinking that college graduates get better paying jobs, most of the time they do, but there are jobs, such as trade jobs, that require less education with great pay. However, traditional colleges are very important for some people and for others, it…
In “Should Everyone Go To College?” Isabel Sawhill and Stephanie Owen makes a solid valid point on whether or not college is for everybody. For many students ready to leave high school, wondering whether they should attend college is an issue that may lay heavy on one teenagers mind. There are few factors that could be a difficult decision depending on a person’s goals they are working towards. Some students jump straight into the work field after graduation high school. Others teenagers, may sign up for the military after graduation. While these are some options, research says higher education is very important in one’s life. Higher education provides opportunity for students that attend college are giving a great shot of a better career later…
There are several reasons readers should familiarize themselves with Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” (also known as “The Negro Is Your Brother”) from our textbook called, "writing arguments." First and most significantly, it was written during “a critical turning point in the struggle for African American civil rights” and is, therefore, this document is generally considered the most important written document of the modern civil rights movement. Martin Luther King Junior's famous is one of the best pieces of writing I have ever read because of its ability to expound on ideas and create a thorough argument as to why what he was doing was just. Throughout this piece Dr. King used rhetoric to persuade his reader and craft a convincing argument. The use of logos, ethos and pathos were all present as he attempted to win over a group of clergymen who challenged his right to protest by calling him an outsider and extremist. So, the letter is also a brilliant example of the art of persuasion as it masterfully analyzes its dual audience: the eight clergymen who reacted to King’s nonviolent activities, and King’s fellow demonstrators. And like all well-crafted persuasive writing, it employs all the rhetorical methods of appeal - the appeal to reason, character, emotion, and style (such as metaphor, simile and other reasoning).…
Even those who serve as a doctor, nurse,or veterinarian most hiring agencies will not be considered qualified for the job and will have to attend college to acquire a degree.. This shows that college is the better choice. College allows you to get into the world and have experiences. Good or bad one will learn from them. These experiences can mold and shape the student into a better person. Those who graduate from college make 17,500 dollars more a year than students who simply obtain a high school diploma. They get jobs in the medical fields, as teachers, or even astronauts. With a college degree new doorways and career paths are open. In college on the other hand all students have the option to change majors and a degree in one study can be applied to many areas for a larger variety of jobs. Nobody wants to be a failure in life college gives you a chance to be successful. Its benefits far outweighs all other choices. High school seniors make the right choice and go to college for a better chance at a life that will be filled with greatness. This greatness awaits at any university or…
Since the beginning of our education we are taught that we have to go to college to be successful. However it now has become a debate whether it is actually beneficial or non beneficial on applying to college. Such as a big percentage of students don't become successful after college and just end up in debt. Such as a majority of students think that a high school education is just enough for them to get by. This puts a lot of pressure on students to be competitive and continually having to be doing their best trying to be the ideal student. This gives another reason for students not going to college, as they feel they do not portray the idealistic student who meets the rigorous needs.…
Students may choose a crisis or legal dispute not assigned by me in this course that has affected the meetings, events, or sports industry (or seriously affected a single meeting, event, or sports event) and write a thorough analysis of the occurrence using the best practices and principles discussed in this course. A case analysis is expected to be 5-7 double-spaced pages long and well organized with headers and clear explanations of what occurred, how it was handled, the outcome, and the fallout (e.g., a regulation was changed, an annual event was discontinued, etc.). Include a list of resources that pertain not only to the case itself but to key issues in the case (e.g., if your case is a specific attrition dispute, include a resource list for further learning about attrition).…
Balancing career demands, family responsibilities, and college studies has never been an easy feat. Since time as a resource, has been and probably will always be scarce, we have to manage it as efficiently as possible. Seemingly, your time is already being stretched too thin, with work and family obligations, so taking on the added responsibility of a college education, makes it even more daunting. But looking across the board of any spectrum of middle income earners, one thing that we find common among them is a college degree. With that being said, many people find it an uphill task to obtain a degree. This is because they already have work and family obligations to contend with. However, with higher education being the way out of poverty for most people, they decide later in life to go to college, to pursue tertiary education. Even though pursuing a college education can be an uphill task, its benefits, outweighs any challenges it may present. In the end, it affords you and your family, the chance of getting ahead in life.…
Steve Jobs once said, “Your work is going to fulfill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don't settle.” We all have different dreams, and goals in life. Teachers and parents do not need to push students towards college. It should be the high school graduates decisions. College doesn't have to be for everyone, but everyone deserves to find that great work regardless of what it takes to get…
In order for me mom to reach her success she went to class very day and she studied every night. I know this because I saw it. I got to watch how much dedication and how hard you got to work to be successful. She worked for hours 6 nights a week on her studies. She first got her associated degree then went on to get her bachelor’s degree both from Kent. She started college because she was offered a promotion at her job as a induction engineer in the terms that she worked on the necessary degree required. My mom’s promotion was her motivation and her goal. It’s safe to say she has been successful in reaching her…
