UNDERSTANDING PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES IN ASSESSMENTS
Task 1
I work for a Substance Misuse Service, based in Coventry in the West Midlands. We provide free and confidential services to the residents of the borough that have been affected by substance misuse.
We are a recovery focussed project providing recovery interventions; including structured support for those seeking change. We believe that every service users’ journey is important. We work to create safer communities and healthier lives in everything that we do.
I currently deliver accredited learning at my project. The course that I deliver is Level 2 in Peer Mentoring.

Peer assessment can be verbal or written. For this purpose verbal feedback would be sufficient. The learner can provide constant feedback to how they believe the task is going and whether they will achieve the outcome. Promoting peer assessment will also enable the learners to work better as a team and develop their skills in giving and receiving feedback on their work.
Self assessment
This will encourage the learner to reflect back on their involvement. In the case of them not achieving the outcome; the learner will be able to reflect back on their involvement in the task. Did they work well as part of the team? What would they do different, if they were to do this task again. The learner should also be able to identify what areas they need to improve on. This will help the learner to develop skills in identifying their weakness; will also help to identify their strengths.
What assessor support and direction would be required?
The assessor would need to provide some basic training for the learners on how to provide peer assessment. The assessor would need to be vigilant to ensure that the feedback that is given is appropriate and constructive as this could sometimes cause friction if there are personality
