One should consider the inability of the respective individual in making the correct decisions. During that particular state of time, does the society think they are in a sane state? Moreover, studies also further confirm that stressful situations only making someone to be more emotional, rather than rational thought. Consequently, how is punishment a valid act? Punishment is a failed strategy for changing behavior, teaching new skills, or developing new and more positive attitudes and beliefs. The only justification for inflicting harsh punishment is to deliver vengeance in accord with the old testament standard of an eye-for-an-eye. They should be focusing on protecting these individuals and giving them a hope to live instead of punishing them. On the contrary, ordinary law makes no provision for the situation that is considered instinctively natural for human beings. Therefore, attempt to commit suicide is against the generally accepted norm. However, it is incorrect to say that the authority has the right to punish the victims if they failed their attempt in committing suicide (Alex, 2012).
In addition, the victims will feel over depressions if they get punishment by the law in their failure to commit suicide. People who are desperate enough to attempt suicide are often in a mentally unstable state, where they feel like their problems can’t be solved and the only way out of it is to end their own life (Chern, 2012).
