Paragraph 1 – summarize the author(s) points
The author in this article talks about the betting history in the United States. According to the Wolohan, gambling on sport events is prohibited in every state, except four states while casino games and lottery are legal in every state, except Hawaii and Utah. The legal betting brings a lot of the money to the budget and can be collected as a tax revenue. Unfortunately, since the betting on sports is not yet legalized in every state a lot of betting occurs illegally and due to this reason, the government are not able to collect more money. Another problem which occurs due to betting is that people trying to arrange games with fixed scores and bet on those. This is a big problem for NCAA since student-athletes are not making any money yet from their athletic talent so it is easier to entice them into fixed matches by proposing some amount of money. In conclusion, the author suggests legalizing betting on sports and distribute collected money to youth sports across the nation.

According to the statistics, the sports betting is really popular and going on illegally, so that would make sense to get some piece of that cut and try to distribute the money wisely. However, in order to stop athletes from participating in fixed matches, I believe that NCAA should create a strict policy towards to issue and everyone who got caught involved into this, should receive a lifetime ban from competitive sports. I think that would scare everyone of even thinking about doing something like that. In conclusion, the legalized sports betting would bring additional revenue to the budget and might solve budget deficit

    Honestly, the the pros outweigh the cons on whether or not we should pay these college athletes, they spend all their time at the college and make money for them, they deserved to be payed something, time that could be spent with friends and family, and they’re instead spending their time in the gym or on the field. The amount of income would be based on the sport, gender, skill level, and school income. A list would be made by a committee of people to rank players from the top to bottom.     Ever since the National Collegiate Athletic Association was formed in 1905, their role in regulating intercollegiate athletics has involved many different tasks. These tasks include making athletics safe in order to prevent injury, marketing athletic events, regulating and changing rules in order to make college sports more fun for the fans, and enforcing the key principle of college sports: amateurism. Amateurism in college athletics means that athletes are unpaid. As a result, the NCAA has had to deal with deciding how to handle issuing and assigning monetary value of scholarships and grants. However, the NCAA has not had to manage the debate over college athletes getting paid to play. In a day where more and more college athletes are leaving college early to enter the professional leagues it is time to ask a question: Should division-I college athletes get paid? The question is based on the assumption that there is a place for college athletics within a university. The NCAA should be looked at economically because the universities within it generate profits through their athletic departments and operate as businesses by assessing costs, revenues, etc. With that assumption established, because of the market inefficiency and exploitative characteristics of the NCAA, division-I college athletes should get paid in a free-market environment.     For example, the University of Arizona just went through a big time scandal involving paying college athletes. One recruiting tactic used by tons of colleges is paying or bribing athletes to come to their school with cash or tangible items. These colleges get in tons of trouble and the players do as well. They usually use these tactics on poor recruits and these athletes receive pressure from their families to accept the offering. To help their family financially they accept the offer from a college and most of the time it goes unnoticed, but when these athletes get caught the consequences are tremendous. The athlete at Arizona had his reputation tarnished and his NBA dreams were crushed as well; all because he was trying to help out his family and did not want to struggle financially. So obviously under the table there are transactions happening and I feel that if the NCAA made paying college athletes legal less programs would get in trouble and the NCAA would no longer be corrupt. This would also make the NCAA more balanced because the bigger programs with more excess money would not be able to sway athletes with all this extra money. There are a ton of solutions to this problem, they could just make this bribing legal, they could make a salary system, or some kind of reward system for players. If a college were to make a salary based system for their college athletes it should be a single base salary only because every program spends roughly the same amount of time putting in tons of work even if they do not bring in as much money.
