1. I think Nelson could communicate with someone over his supervisor’s head especially if he has been acting selfishly in the past and picking up the slack for coworkers who quit, or went on vacation he deserves the same courtesy. Especially if he has been tremendously accepting and has worked so much he has acquired 400 hours of overtime. Also, if he asked about going on vacation in a timely manner it is extremely disrespectful that he was ignored almost up until the last minute.
2. Personally, I have been in a similar situation where I wasn’t granted leave that was much needed and I was owed and that made me not renew my contract with that corporation. It would also appear that Nelson is working in a climate that is negative if several coworkers have quit and others feel like they should reciprocate the selfishness he has showed by filling in for Barb. Hopefully he will be compensated for his paid time off if he chooses to leave his company but it is emotionally and physically drawing working for a corporation that doesn’t value your time and sacrifices. My advice ultimately would be to quit or talk to his boss’s supervisors regarding a major overhaul so they
