In the story “By any other name” by Santha Rama Rau, two
Indian girls’ culture is disrespected as much as they are. In the story, the girls’ names
are Premila and Santha. On the first day of school, they’re headmaster, who isn’t native
to India, was the one who disrespected the Indian girls. She couldn’t pronounce the
Names of them, so she “gave them pretty English names”. That’s enormously
disrespectful in case you haven’t realized that. To the girls and to their culture. They
Were given these names, these names are from Indian descent. It must have been
extremely disrespectful, to change someone’s name to something you can pronounce
compared to letting them keep their names. Your culture can be disrespected just as
