Jane McGonigal, a researcher of games and Director of Games Research & Development at the Institute for the Future. She is the author of the book Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World. Mrs. McGonigal was bedridden after a concussion, she gave herself a prescription by creating a collaborative multiplayer game to get through it, called Superbetter. McGonigal says, “Reality is broken”, and explains that we need to make the life we live and are in work and feel more like a game. On her website TED she states, “In the best-designed games, our human experience is optimized. We have important work to do, we are surrounded by potential collaborators, and we learn quickly and in a low-risk environment.” (McGonigal) Her background in the gaming industry can give her key explains on how we can improve and enhance the way we learn, work, take on and solve problems, and live our daily lives.
After watching TED, the host Jane McGonigal, had some very bold topics about how video games can increase your life span. Along with these bold statements, she has scientific research to support her beliefs. In a personal opinion, I agree with what she is saying. Video games have always been a huge stress reliever for myself and a great way to escape for a little while and relax from every day build up.
