He would play every day whenever he could. He would wake up early and stay up incredibly late just to play his games. She explains how her son's game-playing became so destructive, that he started skipping his classes in order to play these games. Any adult parent would write this off as a stereotypical teenager being lazy, however, this was not the case with Duberley's son. He was not addicted to the gameplay, but the worlds themselves that he engaged in. He believed the people he met inside the gaming world were superior to his own family. Furthermore, he believed the virtual world he was playing in was superior to real life. Duberley explains this when she says, “His obsession with living in a virtual world was consuming his life, and destroying his education. It had left him without real-life friends — or the skills needed to acquire them” (Duberley). The online gaming was overcoming his entire essence. This is a prime of example of how the internet is dividing the population. Although Duberley's son was meeting new people in his online world, he was isolating his real family. He no longer wanted to be part of everyday society. He only wanted to get lost in his internet gaming world. This caused him to ignore society and contain himself away from his family.
