Summary Of Obituary: Great Barrier Reef By Rowan Jacobsn

Rowan Jacobsen’s article in Outside magazine, Obituary: Great Barrier Reef (25 Million BC-2016), is titled the complete death and passing of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Jacobsen says the famous Barrier Reef passed away in 2016 at 25 million years old. He says the Barrier Reef is the largest living structure; stretching 1,400 miles long, 2,900 individual reefs, and 1,050 islands. This grand reef harbors thousands of species. The Barrier Reef is formed by corals, tiny anemone-like animals, that give the reef it’s magnificent colors. Jacobsen states that the Barrier Reef has an extraordinary diversity of life and landscape. Jacobsen says multiple times that the Barrier Reef is dead, but doesn’t talk about the reef as whole, only in parts. There is a difference between something dying and something being completely dead. Jacobsen (2016) even says it himself, “As much as 50 percent of the coral in the warmer, northern part of the reef died,” (par. 11). So no, the great Barrier Reef is not dead. In the world of science, there is no doubt that the world is millions of years old. Jacobsen (2016) even states, “The Great Barrier Reef of Australia passed away in 2016 after a long illness. It was 25 million years old,” (par. 1). But, through doing further research with the Bible, it is concluded that the world is actually only 6,000-12,000 years old. From the time of Adam and Eve and Jesus, a time line has been laid out by Answers in Genesis. The Bible does not give exact dates according to today’s calendar, but it does give time in years. When all of this time is put together, we have the answer of 6,000-12,000 years. Another concern in the world of science is ‘global warming,’ which they now call climate change. Climate change is an issue that keeps coming up as a problem in the current century more and more every year. With the war on climate change taking place, the research on when it really started has to be done. Many believe there is climate change because of the melting of the ozone layer. The ozone layer is supposedly melting from the fumes coming out of cars and factories. But take a moment and think back, were the dinosaurs driving cars? No. Climate change has been taking place since the fall of Adam and Eve and will continue to get worse as the head towards the end
