Some of the side effects from medication or treatments can be uncomfortable and more severe than the symptoms of the…
I have to say this a very disturbing article as Lloyd Olsen was very insensitive and cruel to the poor chicken. I believe this statement is very cruel “When Olsen found Mike the next morning, sleeping with his "head" under his wing, he decided that if Mike had that much will to live, he would figure out a way to feed and water him” (City of Fuita, 2015). Although I disagree with what he did to the chicken I have to say it is fascinating that Mike the headless chicken was able to survive for 18 months without his head. The reason I believe Mike the headless chicken was able to live was because as Olsen hit him with the blade he missed the chicken’s jugular vein which is one of the large veins in the neck that supplies blood from the head to…
Student paper (p. 3): The Awakening is about the story of a young wife who is awakened to her sexual needs that cannot be fulfilled within the confines of her conventional marriage (Clark, 2008). Nevertheless, Edna Pontellier is awakened to a yearning for freedom, a relation to and understanding of herself that she has not been aware of missing in the past. In the text, Edna identifies with the masculine interest of her father who the narrator remarks had managed or coerced his wife into her early grave. However, when Edna is awakened to the hidden potentialities she possesses, it is the yearning for freedom and the desire to overcome the limitations imposed on her from outside that determine her actions.…
One of the most important choices we can make in our life is choosing to spend time with our family and in being happy. Randy Pausch in The Last Lecture expresses this point perfectly. Pausch chose to take his family to Disneyworld, which is a place him and his family both love and enjoy. Pausch still treated his family no differently than when he did not know he had pancreatic cancer. Throughout Pausch’s last six months he stayed completely optimistic and was never gloomy or depressed when around his family or friends. Although Pausch could have been depressed “At the time, I already had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but I was optimistic.”(1) Pausch expresses that even though he is now informed that he had pancreatic cancer, he still is the same man as before and will still continue to be optimistic and happy every day of his life. If you work towards being something you will achieve it eventually and you will be able to remain optimistic in Randy Pausch’s case (37). According to The Art Of Making A Good Decision many people have trouble making the right choice due to their lack of knowing their priorities. In Randy Pausch’s case he chose the right choice and spent his last six months loving and showing his care for his family and enjoying every day he had left to the fullest. Randy Pausch in The Last Lecture shows many examples in which he chose to show his family he is happy despite his illness.…
1 It affects everyone differently, depending on how they were before and what type of person they are will also affect them. They may not be a strong willed person and may not be able to cope with the fact this is happening to them and they may give in, if they are strong they may fight and try to do as much for themselves as possible before it is too late. They may have already had an illness which can make their symptoms worse, therefore not being able to cope as well as others.…
I don’t know how it is to live in pain and the physical and emotional toll it can have on someone. I cannot judge or comment on any person’s situation but a person should not be able to choose whether they will live or die. I believe it is selfish on their part to choose to end their life and should realize that dying will not stop the problems, pains, or sufferings. It will stop on their part because they will not be here to live it but it would not stop for the family and can even get worse with the death of that person. Medicine and technology are highly advanced and can cure or reduce the pain of a person with a disease. There are many medicines and equipment used to ease, stop and even prevent pain. When a person is choosing to end their life they are basically planning on committing suicide. People should look into the consequences it will bring if they do choose to end their life before even mentioning…
Research said this: farm fresh eggs are better because the yolk is a deeper color, and it is richer in taste. While store bought eggs are a medium yellow and not as rich in taste. Farm fresh eggs taste a lot better than store bought eggs. The reason why farm fresh eggs are better is because the home raised chickens are better taken care of, and they are a lot more clean. Because if a chicken can get out in the dirt they will roll around in it and that will clean them and get the bugs off.…
Having no signs of tumors after treatment, or living through/beyond cancer. Survivorship is very complicated when having a brain tumor, because it is different for everybody.…
Eventually they concluded that cancer was a possibility. The doctor also didn’t help with any of this new upcoming stress (but then again it’s not their job). He closed the door, hunched over in his seat, took of his glasses, and in a stern voice told me and my father “we don’t want to scare you but we might be looking at cancer here”. Of course my heart was ready to pound out of my chest due to the immense stress and fear of living with cancer. I’m already an anxious kid and now being told that I could have cancer just made me fear life in itself. Now picture this: you’re a 16 year old where everything is eventually taken away, no more baseball, positive vibes, and stress affecting my performance in school on top of being told I could possibly be living with cancer for the rest of my life. How would I make it anywhere in life when I couldn’t even think straight due to this fear and stress? However even with this news, I took some time to meditate and figure out myself. With this time I contemplated many depressing things. Such as how my funeral would be, who would be there, and who would be sad. With time the doctors confirmed that it was only a scare and that the source was something else that could be…
I agree with the author, I would much prefer to be able to laugh and use positive feelings and a strong mind set to heal and recover from illness, instead of lying in a hospital bed with needles poking me everywhere and having my blood drawn every few hours or so. I think this would personally,…
Cancer… I'm screaming, crying and I feel like I'm dying. That's because I am. I was diagnosed 6 months ago, and the doctors have been telling me to 'Fight' and 'Just hold on' ever since. Every time I wake up I'm in a hospital bed staring at the ceiling and wondering how I'm still alive, but as I get told constantly I am. When I was first rushed to the hospital it was because my ribs felt like they were caving in on me and made it hard to breathe, I was taking long but wheezing breaths.…
Cancer was something that happened in my life that I did not see coming. No of course it was not me who was hit with the big C. This happened to my sister when I was in the 6th grade. This took a major change to me and it changed who I am today. When this happened it took control of my sister. My sister has never had a fair life for her. When ever she would get passed a major thing in her life something always comes around to bite her. This thing that started it all happened when she was 3-4 years old and my sister needed to have brain surgery because she was constantly having seizures because of a brain condition called cortical dysplasia. This is a malformation in the development of the brain. Basically what this means is she had spots that…
I kept a food journal with me wherever I went and steadily accumulated a list of triggering foods to avoid. Only a few weeks after sticking to my safe foods, the pain and discomfort ceased to exist, and I regained hope. Since I no longer had physical restrictions, I decided to try sports again and earned a spot on Varsity Tennis. After nearly three years of coping with this aberrant condition, and another eight months of diligently following my strict diet, I understand now the strength I have for handling such situations. If I can get through this, I can get through…
(O’Sullivan). These stages are characterized in scientific research. Shock is a brief initial reaction to the diagnosis. The reaction is described as mental numbness and disorganization of thoughts that can leave you speech less. (Livneh). Anxiety is the worry or fear about the magnitude of the current situation. It can result in physical stress symptoms on the body such as rapid heart rate, hyperventilation, excess perspiration, and digestive issues. (O’Sullivan). Denial is our defensive mechanism to distract us from pain and other unwanted emotions. “It includes wishful thinking, unrealistic expectations of (full or immediate) recovery, and at times, blatant neglect of medical advice and therapeutic or rehabilitation recommendations.” (Livneh). Depression is the reaction response to the realization of the final ending. “Feelings of despair, helplessness, hopelessness, isolation, and distress are frequently reported during this time.” (Livneh). Internal Anger is when a person has resentment and blame for themselves. This can reaction can lead to sabotaging ones progress. (O’Sullivan). External hostility is redirected anger toward people and things around the person. Acknowledgement and adjustment is the realization that the illness is not going away.…
