Summary Of The Empire Strikes Back
In The Empire Strikes Back by Sandy Stone there are many arguments and facts that are exposed to the reader. Throughout the piece of writing the author mentions the idea of “acceptance”. The idea of acceptance not only applies to society, but to the individuals as well. As Stone mentions many transgendered people are not happy with who they are. They embark on a journey not only to change their appearance, but to change who they are. As the author mentions many people who undergo a sex change do it during the third and fourth decade of their life. By that time many of those individuals have lived a life in which they have not been fully happy with who they are. They have created long lasting relationships and memories throughout those years. …show more content…
Take Buck Angel for example. He was a born a man yet he has not had a sex change operation. Throughout his documentary we see just how important and dedicated he is to tearing down the “abnormalities” surrounding transsexuals. Throughout most of his life he knew and felt that he was meant to be a man. As mentioned by his sister, while the girls played with other girls, he (she at the time) would go outside and play with the boys. To everyone in the family it seemed normal but as buck grew people began to notice just how different he really was. From a young age he embarked on a journey that till this day, as he mentions in the documentary, he is still on. But what is most fascinating about buck is the fact that he is happy and even embraces who he is not just as a man, but as a woman as well. He had no need to undergo a sex change in order to feel complete, because in his mind the change was within. As he mentions throughout the video, just because he does have a vagina it does not make him less of a man. A person is not defined by their gender, a person is defined by who they are and how they see

When infants are born, the first words uttered from the doctor is the sex of the child. As soon as the sex is announced, the baby is already perceived a certain way. By categorizing human beings into two different genders, male or female, you are limiting these people by gender roles and societal expectations. When doing this it causes harm to anyone who strays from their gender or sex assigned at birth. A term to describe these people is transgender. A transgender person is someone whose identity is not the same as their gender assigned at birth. Many other identifying people fall under this category. It is time to deconstruct society's views on gender and provide necessary rights to transgender individuals. Transgender people not being accepted into society is a significant problem in contemporary culture that challenges the traditional norms of the gender binary.…

There is a difference between a “transgender,” “transsexual,” and a “non-gender conforming” individual. A transgender is a person whose self-identity differs from their ascribed status. To clarify, an ascribed status is something that is assigned to a person at birth which cannot be altered such as skin color— in this case— sex; meanwhile, a transsexual is a person who willingly undergoes plastic surgery to actually alter their birth sex. A non-gender conforming person is someone who does not abide from society’s stereotypical views of how they should appear or behave based on what their ascribed status was originally. For example, in society the average female should appear as delicate as a porcelain doll with hair below shoulder length, pastel…

The effects it has on us and our social factors influences us even in our later sexual behaviors, and throughout our lives. I have met some women who are in gender change possess and I have to say “this is not something to take lightly. Women have killed themselves because of not feeling comfortable with their own skin. Whether it’s a gay a man or female with some male muscles, organs, or parts, these women and men suffer daily. Society still has a way to go when it comes to excepting the issues that gender identification brings up. I personally cannot imagine living a lie just so I would be accepted socially. I feel that when it comes to gender identity many people get a misunderstanding of what the actual meaning of it is. This can sometimes even turn out to be very controversial and arise many arguments. But I definitely feel that people shouldn’t be judged whether they are feminine or masculine just because of certain actions they do or decide to take over with. Even though gender identity consists of how one’s own belief is, sometimes people even make others begin to doubt what they really are. Sometimes depending on your culture or family background there are certain passages that help lead a man into manhood and some that help woman into…

The psychological aspect of gender has yet to be scientifically proven in humans, as with the example of Dr. Money. When a doctor attempted to change the behaviour of a male to become a female with nurture it failed miserably and has not been attempted since. The idea of Gender Identity has been linked with Gender Dysphoria, which is “strong, persistent feelings of identification with the opposite gender and discomfort with one's own assigned sex that results in significant distress or impairment” (Gender…

According to Gender Spectrum “Gender is a spectrum and not limited to just two possibilities.” When people get older in life they feel like they weren’t born the right gender so they go through gender reassignment surgery to change their sexual identity. Many people get bullied for this and treated unequal as a person in society. People feel like they shouldn’t have to be labeled as just male or female.…

The way a person is raised can play a large role in his or her gender. For years society has decided how a male person should act and how a female person should act. Boys play with trucks and action figures and girls play with dolls and do each other’s hair. There is no law published that states this is how it has to be, but these socially constructed perceptions have been drilled into peoples’ heads to become almost equivalent to law. The story “Bros before Hos: The Guy Code,” by Michael Kimmel, outlines all the unwritten rules of “being a man” in today’s society, like men do not cry, or do not ask for directions, or show any signs of weakness at all. Breaking any of these unwritten rules is considered unmanly or even girly. One of the many problems with these unwritten rules is that there is so much emphasis on them that focus is brought away from the true aspects of their gender children need to know to aid in their gender identity. Scientific aspects of their gender, such as the function of their penis or vagina or the menstrual cycle for girls can get…

Even though Money’s theory has no substantial scientific or case study evidence, intersex children are still handled in the manner that if they are surgically assigned a sex and raised as that sex, that they will identify with that sex and live happily. Hospitals still follow this policy and have been slow to change otherwise. This is because Money’s theory provided an answer, even though it is not a good one, and a policy for handling an anatomical condition that previously did not have one. These power structures should be addressed because this “solution” has caused all damage and no good; not one person who was the victim of Money’s theory was thankful that their parents took this route to handle their intersex. The best way to do this we think is to educate the public more on intersex, and that it is not a deformity but simply an aspect of an individual. Also, educating medical students and current medical practitioners that surgical assignment of sex does more harm than good, and letting the child grow and decide on their own what they want is what is truly best fort the…

Gender can be defined as the sex-role that a person takes on according to guidelines or standards instilled in us by society. One can be a male or female biologically, but still be perceived as the opposite sex due to the way one may think or present him self or her self. Whether or not we are born with certain biological traits different in male versus female is the nature versus nurture question that has been around for years. Through research, science has found that men and women differ in the way they process information, but whether or not this is due to the way that they are socialized or if in fact they are born this way has yet to be proven.…
