It certainly helps no one when victims keep their mouths shut. For whatever reason it is, not telling someone of a bullying case is not a good option. Bullying could come to an end for a person that just had the mind to speak up. And a bystander who witnesses an act of bullying should be obligated to speak up as well. Unfortunately this rarely happens. Especially in the school systems.

Major cases of bullying sometimes do not make it that far because they end in suicide or school shootings. But when a

person does make it into their adult years it does not mean that they are suddenly cured of years of hurt. Having lost control from the bullying, they feel the need to take back the control they can. It seems to become a vital necessity for some. And kids or teens that have been bullied more than once in their life are more sensitive to it in the future. They are more affected by mean comments being thrown around because they have been so accustomed to them. The older you get growing up like that the harder it is to come out of the habit of being a victim. W.E Jacobs and Maureen McMahon in their article “Counterpoint: School Children Should Learn to Defend Themselves against Bullies” from the Points of Reference Center expresses why they believe that children should be able to defend themselves from bullies. Jacobs and McMahon argue that bullying is everywhere and has two aspects which is the victim that is supposed to act a certain way to the bully and the bully who shows the aggression. Most of the bullying going on now a days has to do with children, mostly in schools or on social networking. Many people do want to stop this such as teachers and parents but they are unable to because it doesn’t happen around them (Jacobs and McMahon np).…

Bullying has become an epidemic, and it needs to come to an end. If people will stand up for each other and protect each other, I believe bullying would cease to be effective. It preys on those who do not have the confidence to defend themselves. Often times, the bully hurts others as a way of protecting himself. He believes that if he attacks others, then they will not know he himself is hurting, or has been hurt in the past. It becomes a coping mechanism for him. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that bullying should not be responded to with more violence. They need to be shown love, but firm love. A love that says, “I love you enough to not let you continue down this path. Let me show you another way.” Then you are not only l protecting those that the bully hurts, but also you are protecting the bully himself in the long run.…

Bullying has been a part of American childhood since at least the turn of the 20th century. Classic Hollywood films – the “Our Gang” series, “Little Lord Fauntleroy” and “Poor Little Rich Girl” – all present what we in America today would call bullying – children being persecuted physically/psychologically by others. In some of these films the bullying is presented as a part of the rite of passage from childhood into adulthood. My own mother remembers being bullied by a boy who would follow her home after school to call her names and physically intimidate her.…

Most people look back at high school and think of the great experiences they have had, and the memories they will hold forever, but thoughts varied whether someone was in the popular crowd or an underdog. A bully may look back on high school and embrace the memory, remembering the power, strength and greatness they felt, but the power does not last forever. The bully victim, someone who is bullied then turns to bully others, faces greater problems than the ones they hurt once high school is over and the power surge ends. On the other hand, those who were bullied look back at high school and instead of remembering the great moments, are scarred and blocked by the fear and anxiety they felt, and continue to feel throughout their lives. The effects of bullying do not just stop after high school ends, but follow the victim, as well as the bully victim long after.…
