Summary Of The Novel 'Hold' By Rachel Davidson Leigh
How does one certainly know if a book is good or not? It's simple, usually before finding a book one will look at the book's summary online or at the back of the book to find what the book is about. Also, not to mention, the critics or opinions of the book, that’s one-way one may find out if a book is a good read or not. In the novel "Hold", written by author Rachel Davidson Leigh is an exceptional book full of many meanings and themes of loss, relationship, and self-concept but from my perspective, it has some flaws that make the book too predictable. The book "Hold" in my opinion is a good read but I didn't have a liking for it because it is like every other fiction books out there. Therefore, I will share my opinion on the novel "hold" with three different explanations of what I like about it, what I don’t like about the novel and the overall reasons to why I have …show more content…
I only read two-thirds of the book and, I only stopped because it got too boring and all the events in the book got predictable. At first, when reading the summary of the book, it was interesting how the character has a superpower and it made me want to read and know how he got his power of freezing time. I also think that the book sounds like every other movie or book out there just like for example the character founds out they have superpowers and shows off and uses their superpower to their advantages either good or bad. For these types of book to be interesting, all it needs is a sad background to the character, a superpower, and how they use their superpower. It sounds really similar to many movies and books we see, just like the many Marvel superheroes. Also, when reading the first half of the book on how he got his superpower, I made a prediction that he might discover his superpower through something obvious like getting mad that causes his discovery and it did. Even throughout the book, it just becomes more

This story was very odd but was a good book. The fiction of this story is tied to reality in a very unique way, that is very effective in making the story not feel very fantasy. This feature made the book truly more enjoyable. Other writing techniques like not having any foreshadowing. The book keeps you guessing until the very end. Even within the story parts that I had never seen coming, Like releasing the prince. Allowing Alix to run away and eventually return on curiosity.…

The plot of each book, “Okay for now” by Gary Schmidt and “Conjured” by Sarah Beth Durst, differ greatly. For example, where each story takes place, what the theme of each story is, what each story is about, what each story involves, and how each story reads. Each of these things play an important part in a book as well as in the plot. Without knowing any of these things, a book would be confusing and would leave the readers guessing, which could make the book boring, in which case no one would want to read it.…

My opinion that this book was a little sad because Kevin (also known as Freak) had a disease that made him stop growing at three feet so he had to wear metal leg braces and crutches. Also in the beginning Max was a bully because in the beginning of the story Max was called Kicker because whoever touched him Max will hurt that person by punching and kicking him/her. The book also talks a lot about friendship and trust because when Freak and Max first saw each it was only for one afternoon and that afternoon they barely talked to each other but once years have passed, some how Freak moved next to Max’s emptied neighbors house (the only reason the house was empty because the old neighbor was still in jail) So after Freak got out…

It had humor, real life events, sadness, and suspense. I would most definitely recommend this novel to someone because although it’s very long, you won’t want to stop reading it. This book will make you wonder, cry, even laugh. It’s a book that I think had great meaning and was put together very well. In my opinion, there is no flaws about this book except how long it is.…

I like how its really intense and calming and also some parts funny. I like how it talks about teen pregnancy because some young teens will want to get pregnant at such a young age and if they read this book it may help them change their mind and wait till they get older, thats very important to me. I really like the chapter where Bobby was talking about the wall when he was trying to get everything back in place and try to see who he really was, i thought that part was really good. I like how it goes back and fourth for the chapters like then and now, it makes you want to read more because in one chapter it tells you really good information and you just want to read even more till the…

This novel is very unrealistic. The Time Traveler has an amazing memory. It is hard to believe anyone can remember that much detail. Unless he has an eidetic memory, it is nearly impossible. Time travel is also impossible, but that was intended. What was not intended, is the time machine model that got sent into the past or the future never reappeared. Filby gave a good argument as to why the model couldn’t have been sent into the past, so the model must have gone to the future. However, it never showed up! It was supposed to come in two weeks but it doesn’t. Other than the few loose threads, the book is…

The best feeling in the world is overcoming an obstacle, especially one when people say it can’t be done. Sherman Alexie talks about this in his writing “Superman and me,” where he tells us his life story about how he started out as a poor Indian boy living on a reservation and overcame many racial barriers to become a writer. Alexie uses rhetorical strategies such as ethos and pathos to pull the reader in and make them understand his life story. He also uses writing strategies like repetition and syntaxes to really make the reader latch onto what he is talking about.…
