To begin with, the culture I am surrounded by concludes of people who are very social and outgoing within the aspects of a city. Such as going to parties, going out to the mall, shopping, and being involved in drama. On the other hand, I am not into what most people around me are into, so I am set aside for being different. Lorde found that “it is necessary to teach by living and speaking those truths which [people] believe and know beyond understanding. Because in this way alone [people] can survive, by taking part in a process of life that is creative and continuing, that is growth” (Lorde 4). If people live true to themselves and not live by other’s decisions, life would be better and full of growth for those who follow themselves. Choosing their own culture makes them who they are, but once another culture tries to force someone in or look down upon them, then it ruins a person's chance to their own happiness. In today's world “there are so many silences to be broken” (Lorde 4). Many people suffer because they follow a culture that they aren't happy about so they live in silence, but once they speak out for themselves and chose their own culture life becomes more
