Can people eat beef and still be healthy? This question about beef has been the subject of debate for many decades. There are people that believe that beef is healthy because of its high protein content and nutritional benefits. There are also people who say beef is high in saturated fats and causes health issues. Beef is a very good source of protein; it is actually the easiest way to get our B vitamins daily. “ Red meat is a rich source of vitamin B-12, which is vital to proper functioning of nearly every system in your body” explains Chris Kresser in the article “Red Meat: It does the body good!” The B vitamins provide the body with natural energy. Red meat also contains vitamin D metabolite called 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, which is assimilated much more quickly and easily than other dietary forms of vitamins. (Kresser) People also need adequate vitamin D intake because it helps to regulate calcium absorption and allow the body to use it more effectively. In addition to helping regulate vitamins in the body, beef also help with placing iron in the red cells and making them healthy. Chris Kresser also writes “For people who don’t eat a lot of oily fish or receive a lot of direct sun exposure, red meat can contribute significantly to their overall vitamin D intake”. Furthermore, eating beef is a good for increasing iron intake as the body easily absorbs the iron in beef the best.
