College football players in need of money? College football players work very hard, spend a good amount of time practicing, and don’t make a single cent from any of it therefore they should get paid. In the past college football players have not been paid for all of the blood sweat and tears that they put into the sport. In recent years football players such as Chris Burnette, who plays for the University Georgia, are starting to think otherwise.
High school sports are very time consuming. College sports are played on such a higher caliber therefore takes much more time than high school sports. Many schools have practice twice a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Not to mention classes. Sean …show more content…
Gregory from Time magazine writes that players are essentially working full time football jobs while going to school.
The second reason college football players should be paid is because college is expensive and many can’t afford it. By the end of college most students are in a deep pile of debt. It is incredibly hard for a football player to get a job to start paying off the immense pile of debt that they are in. Chris Burnette decided to give $5 haircuts in his dorm room whenever he could find time. That was all he could do since he didn’t have enough time for a real job.
The last reason is that college football brings in a very large income to the college itself, and the ones bringing the money in are the football players.
Sean Gregory included that the University of Georgia's football team brings in an annual revenue of $75 million. They make the money but the players don't see any of the money. If they are bringing the money in shouldn’t they get some of the money?
Some people argue that college football players shouldn’t be paid because they get scholarships. Chris Burnette thought that getting a scholarship would be more than enough, but after his sophomore year he realized it wasn’t much. There is also the threat of losing the scholarship if you aren’t performing to the liking of the coach. It is also possible to lose a scholarship by getting injured, something the player has no control over. All in all, college football players deserve to make some sort of money. They put an insane amount of time into practicing and getting better. They give immense effort to the sport, and lastly they bring in millions of dollars to the college that they don't see at all. College football players need to be
paid.
