Summary: Teens Speak Out On Violence
The book, I wrote on four walls: Teens Speak out on Violence, can be related to every person especially teenagers. The book tells that everyone’s lives are not different from others. Like Claire, Sue, Janice, Don and other more. Claire’s childhood was hard, she had no social skills, she was unsure about herself and she got bullied in her school. After reading her story, at first, I felt pity and bad for her, with all the experienced she met while growing up was so difficult. She went to different foster homes, she used drugs and went partying. However, Avril helped her out and fixed her life. She moved to Toronto to continue studying with her older sister, Amy. If I was there, I would consider Claire to be my friend because she needs a friend that will help her and cheer for her. This story makes me feel that I’m …show more content…
Claire and I have the same problem in socializing. I also have low social skills just like her, when we went here in Canada, I struggled socializing with other people until now. If we’re talking about friends, I only have four people who I considered as a friend. I think because I liked to be alone made my social skills low and didn’t care about having a lot of friends. Her story reminds me of my one classmate at the Philippines, she got bullied when we were grade 7. I don’t even know why they hated her, even though I was there I didn’t help because I might also be bullied. But, they also stopped bullying her, and there was a group of girls who help her until grade 9. This also reminds me of my close friend that shared her story with us, her problem started when our school guards saw them drinking alcohol inside our classroom, they went to the principal’s office with their parents and got suspend. She was also caught her smoking cigarette in her room which made her parents mad. They took her phone, they stopped talking to her and also didn’t gave her money. When we knew her

In the article Trash-Talking Teens the biggest problem mentioned is high viewed T.V. stations, such as ABC and NBC, authorizing a large quantity of profanity and sexual dialogue. This inflation is creating a concern to the growing body of science. The studies have demonstrated the negative side effects of children and teens consuming entertainment including profanity and sexual dialogue. One of the main reasons this is occurring is because the TV ratings with PG (acceptable for younger teens and children) are often deceiving, letting inappropriate dialogue air. The consequence of this deceitfulness presented by specific stations is introducing inappropriate language then kids incorporating it into their daily life. Another thing they incorporate…

Michael Gerard Bauer dealt with a topic that relates to the age group I’m in now. “Don’t Call Me Ishmael” was written about teen hood: Bullying, coping, low self esteem, self consciousness, the list could go on and St Daniels College is the place where it all happens. Ishmael is a fourteen year old boy who goes through the problems that I see teens face every day. His mates are nonetheless social outcasts themselves. All the characters in Bauer’s book deals with their own individual problems.…

I will be writing a summary of the journal article “Violence, Older Peers, and the Socialization of Adolescent Boys in Disadvantaged Neighborhoods” written by David J. Harding (2009), who argues that, “cross-cohort socialization by older neighborhood peers is one source of socialization for adolescent boys” (Page 445). He uses primary data collection from 60 adolescent boys in three Boston neighborhoods to “understand the causes and consequences of these interactions and relationships” (Harding, 2009, Pg. 445).…

I chose this text because it demonstrates how people can change perspectives no matter what race, religion, economic status or appearance. This text explains how people should view others instead of just reading a book by its cover. It also shows how far people are willing to change their perspective on others an example of this would be, when Leigh is around her friends. They are worried that Leigh is taking Michael in at a rapid…

I tried my best to fit in but arriving at a completely new area and having to make new friends was an extremely scary thought for me. I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t have any friends, and I felt isolated. All I wanted to do was go back to California to the familiar faces I left behind. As the year progressed, I was forced to break my shell and interact with others in my class gradually becoming more confident in myself and making new friends. The internal battles I had to endure in me becoming more social eventually taught me not to be afraid to build relationships. Learning this at an early stage was very beneficial to me because now I am not afraid to talk to complete strangers and even befriend…
