Summary: To Good Universe Productions
To Good Universe Productions,

I am Ipek Kahraman, a sophomore in University of Southern California. I am contacting you in response for an internship position on USC School of Cinematic Arts’ Job Board. As a fan of both, 50/50 and Juno, I am highly interested for the Physical Production Internship position.

This is my second year in the film production track and I believe I have enough experience to be a productive intern for Good Universe Productions. I have done my student films in which I directed a crew of 4. To get more exposure to on-set culture, I also volunteered to help on many undergraduate and graduate Thesis’ sets as a production assistant and a camera operator. Furthermore, I have worked in an Sound Equipment Center office

In a world where books are outlawed and knowledge is scoffed, separation from true feelings means true happiness. Or does it? Ray Bradbury’s book, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates exactly what the world would be if people were separated so completely from their feelings that they were unable to comprehend the true meaning and feeling of real satisfaction. Although Fahrenheit 451 and our society today are distinctly different, they also have some startling similarities.…

Black Boy is an autobiography of Richard Wright who grew up in the backwoods of Mississippi. He lived in poverty, hunger, fear, and hatred. He lied, stole, and had rage towards those around him; at six he was a "drunkard," hanging about in taverns. He was surrounded on one side by whites who were either indifferent to him, pitying, or cruel, and on the other by blacks who resented anyone trying to rise above the common people who were slaves or struggling.…

My interest in the media world started back when I was in 7th grade. This spark first began in photography and has done nothing but grown since then. As I grew older this curiosity went from photography to television. The particular aspect of this field that draws my attention is the world of producing. Although I do not have any prior experience with producing, I know that an internship with WVUA 23 would be the perfect first step in one day becoming a producer. I learn very quickly and I will not stop something until it is completed in a proper manner. I am very eager to learn everything I can about producing and I know I will be able to do so through this internship. I enjoy working in a team-oriented setting where there is one common goal, as I am able to get along with all different types of people. I do not feel that any job is beneath me, and I am willing to do whatever possible in order to gain knowledge in…

What I found most interesting about the book was the various effects of the subzero temperatures and how the Fox Company Marines learned to endure and survive the savage conditions. One of the major health concerns and causes of fatality was the widespread frostbite. They slept in the ice and snow and lived mostly off of crackers and candy. Some of the effects on their equipment was how the firing pins on many of their weapon systems were frozen solid and even some of the grenades that they threw would not explode. Another instance in the book that interested me was how they had to put syringes of morphine in their mouths to warm the medicine before it could be administered.…

As Good As It Gets, a movie about a man with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), has many interesting aspects to an abnormal psychology student. “Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).” (Berger, 2012) There have been several unproven propositions as to what causes OCD including head injuries and infections.…

I have always been known as the kid with unending football knowledge. That, along with the fact that I had been hosting my own radio show for two years at the time, left me with great confidence going into my NFL Network internship. My first day on the job I was thrown into the fire. I was researching statistics and other stories to craft my own pieces to present to the rest of the office. At the end of the day, I had written four segments, all of which I was very proud of. I never imagined that all four would be rejected.…

The battle on Fox Hill in North Korea was known as an inspirational triumph to the Marine Corps and to America. The courageous acts made there were just as heroic as those done in Iwo Jima, Khe Sanh, and Belleau Wood, which were also marked as some of our proudest moments in history. In 1981, the 27th Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Robert H. Barrow, wrote in a letter to Captain William Barber, “I regard your performance as commander of Fox Company at Toktong Pass from November 27 through December 2, 1950, as the single most distinguished act of personal courage and extraordinary leadership I have witnessed or about which I read.”…

“Crew call after school, be there or be square” the posted announcement said. I still remember fairly vividly the initial day starting off as a theatre technician. Learning the procedure and getting acquainted with the people were many of the first things I did. Many of the experienced “techies,” as we called them explained to me the method they built sets and how to program the lighting console. Using power tools and saws were fun but planning and executing each step was the best part about it. Many mistakes were made while I was learning but time allowed me to develop and enhance my abilities.…

Despite this fact, I learned I could control this part just for a little while” (Process Paper 2). These techniques I have learned over the past year and a half have put the audition more in my hands. The biggest lesson I have learned, however, is to remember that I am a collaborator when I enter a room with people wanting to hire me. I am no less or more. I was reminded of this in Randall David Cook’s unit from an article that we read about being a successful actor. It was further evident in the cold reading sessions we had that we all contributed to the feeling of his…

Through the arts internship program, I hope to gain real world experiences and skills that would make my transition from graduation to career a smooth one. Opportunities for students in the arts faculty is not always readily available. Although I strongly believe that what I have taken away from my arts degree so far are valuable critical thinking skills etc, some employers often regard them as soft skills and question their application to the work that they are involved with. Therefore, I see the arts internship program as a platform to help me bridge the gap between these 'soft skills' and put them in practical application so that these skills are demonstrated in a practical context and background. In addition, networking with professionals…
