Summer Shade: A Short Story
Summer Shade is a unique little place populated with unique folks. Lois and I moved here in 1976 from Louisville. The company I worked for at that time needed a salesperson in the area. We tried to find a house in Glasgow, but either the rent was too high or the places we could afford was mostly unlivable.

I won't go into details, but we found a nice place that fit our needs in Summer Shade. I seem to fit right in from the start.

I remember our first Halloween well.

I had joined the Rescue Squad and our job was to clear the roads of trees that had been cut across the roads and put out fires that had been set in rolls of hay.

I remember the time when traffic whizzed thru Summer Shade going or coming from the lakes. We didn't have radar, but Billy Barlow and myself got us a gallon can from the lunch room at the school and set up across from Earl's store.

By and by we heard two ladies chatting on the CB. One lady was concerned about the speed they were traveling. The other lady assured her that there was no need to worry, because Summer Shade was just a hick town and said she had never had trouble with speeding.

    Peter Redgrove was born in a middle class family in Kingston. As a child he got a microscope as a present and because of this he got a scholarship to Cambridge for science.
