I have excellent written and verbal communication skills. In my present job as a Parenting Support Practitioner in a Family Support Role I work with children and families providing various forms of social work intervention.
I work on a referral basis with parents of children considered to be at risk of poor outcomes. Typical issues in the families I support are that the children have parents who are offenders (including those in prison), have experienced domestic violence, or have mental health or drug and alcohol problems. This role has meant that I have not only worked with children and their parents, I have also worked with their extended families, teachers and health care services. In this role I also organise and supervise Contact on several occasions which has included transporting family members and arranging the activities they do during this time..
I have over 20 years’ experience working directly with children and their families. I achieved a NVQ level three in caring for young people and children in 2005, which is equivalent to NNEB qualifications. I am also willing to undertake further training where it is necessary. I have completed an access to teaching training course following that I then completed two years of BED honours degree in primary education. This included numeracy and literacy work at an intermediate level.
