In 2003 a man known as Simon Hall was jailed after the brutal murder of Joan Albert in her home after an attempted burglary. Joan had suffered at least five stab wounds from a carving knife from her own kitchen, she was found dead in the hallway. He initially claimed he was innocent and although admitting to burglary, he claimed it was at a different place and therefore it was impossible for him to have killed Joan. Unfortunately for him however, forensic investigators had found fibres on her body, which after analysis, forensic scientists deemed them to be his and the court therefore jailed him. This case is remarkable because it is the first case in the UK that a person has been conflicted entirely based on the evidence from the fibres since…

The state health departments are responsible for providing classes such as rehab, drug abuse, and better living conditions. Great statement when you stated, “State health departments are responsible for disease surveillance, state laboratory services, responding to public health emergencies, population based prevention services, regulation of health care providers, environmental health, and finally, technical assistance and training.” Do you think there is anything else that the local health departments can do for individuals to provide any other medical assistance?…

One bad apple spoils the whole bunch, a phrase that helps explain what has happened to forensics science in the modern era. Forensic labs are gone over with a fine-tooth comb as media and lawyers are looking for anything out of place. It’s safe to say that some people have lost faith in forensics and the justice process, all because of a few people who couldn’t handle the power they held. Ethics in forensics isn’t all black and white, there are grey areas that make some decisions incredibly difficult.…
Mary Barnett, the mother of a six month old daughter, left for San Francisco to see her fiancé. Leaving her daughter behind, she returned seven days later to find her child dead. After calling the police and telling them she left the child with a baby sitter, she later told them this was not true and that she left the daughter on purpose knowing the consequences. A trial was then conducted to determine if she would be convicted of second degree murder and be sentenced to 18 years. The witnesses and information they provided was laid before me and I am to determine with the evidence presented whether Mary Barnett is rightfully guilty or not guilty.…
