Management is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources effectively and efficiently. Management comprises planning, organizing, directing and controlling an organization (a group of one or more people or entities) or effort for the purpose of accomplishing a goal Cardy (2008:15).
A principle refers to a fundamental truth. It establishes cause and effect relationships between two or more variables under given situation. They serve as a guide to thought and actions. Therefore management principles are the statements of fundamental truth based on logic which provides guidelines for managerial decisions making and actions. These principles are derived on the basis of observation and analysis like practical experience of managers and by conducting experimental studies
Henry Fayol’s 14 principles was one of the earliest theories of management to be created and remains one of the most comprehensive. He is considered to be the most influential contributors to the modern concept of management. The 14 principles of management by Henry Fayal are as follows:
1. DIVISION OF LABOUR
Henry Fayal has stressed on the specialization of jobs, he recommended that work of all kinds must be divided and subdivided and allotted to various persons according to their expertise in a particular area. Subdivision of work makes it simpler and result in efficiency, it also helps the individual in acquiring speed, accuracy in his performance. Therefore specialization leads to efficiency and economy in spheres of business.
2. AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
Authority and responsibility are co- existing, in that if authority
